Description

When Going Through Hell...Don’t Stop!: A Survivor's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Clinical Depression is the audiobook version of the print book that was published in 2000. This compelling memoir tells the dramatic story of author Douglas Bloch’s battle with, and ultimate recovery from, a life-threatening depressive illness.

After a series of personal losses and setbacks, Douglas plummeted into a major depressive episode. For the next 10 months, he struggled to stay alive in the face of overwhelming despair as unbearable anxiety attacks alternated with dark, suicidal depressions.

Although the managed care mental health system failed to provide him with effective treatment, Douglas devised his “daily survival plan for living in hell" - a holistic recovery program consisting of physical, mental, and emotional self-care that kept him afloat until he was ultimately healed.

Do not read / listen to this if you are struggling

Be warned that this author spends enough time walking you through his own symptoms and experience before getting to anything helpful for you, the reader / listener. It is -extremely- triggering for some, especially if you are in the midst of a depressive episode. Other reviewers have also pointed this out, and having listened to this did far more harm than good.

Calming Narration excellent autobiography- very helpful

The performance is extraordinary- fantastic.
I listen to his you tube channel . It has helped me so much. To listen to someone who has experienced the darkness and come out the other side is extremely therapeutic.
I listened to this book in parts on his you tube channel and could hardly wait until it was available in audio form.
The previous review is unfair. This may not be for everyone but it will help many.
I have been through multiple episodes of clinical depression in my 64 years. I wish I had this book back in the 80’s when access to mental health was in the shadows. It has helped me now and certainly would have helped me then.
