À propos de cet audio

There's less than one week to go in the run-up to the nation's next general presidential election - a heated political contest pitting the incumbent president against a popular challenger. But all bets are off when a heinous act of domestic terrorism results in a young boy being held hostage before the eyes of America...with the ultimate demands to result in nothing short of changing the face of history.

As a nationwide investigation into the boy's possible whereabouts is quickly mobilized, military brass requests that the mutant Wolverine become involved as well - there's simply no one more qualified with the tracking skills and vicious talent necessary to uncover the truth, even as the country threatens to descend into chaos....

Peter David offers a workable - if a little bit "cookie-cutter" - political thriller where a child is kidnapped and held hostage unless the voters vote a certain way (ie. Terrorists challenging Democracy itself). To that thought-provoking real-world matrix, he adds good and bad guys with mutant powers in keeping with the Marvel Universe reality.
The writing is capable, the author's imagination is praiseworthy, and the action is choreographed nicely. Less fortunately, the book just didn't captivate me.. and it struggles to straddle the line between kids' story and "mature" fantasy (some gore wouldn't be amiss during many scenes, but Mr. David adheres to PG-13 sensibilities).

Similar to the effectiveness of the book, the performance is hit & miss. Andrew Eiden does a very nice job reading the book, but displays variably successful voice-acting (his 'Wolverine' is clearly a growly Clint Eastwood  impression, for example), and has a natural sibilance that Marvel Studios Audio engineers struggle to soften. The recording is comfortable for hours of listening.. but could have been delivered equally well with another reader. Eiden is "professional".

Altogether, 'Election Day' is a fun distraction. It's more "grown-up" than many Superhero stories on offer on Audible - but still a suitable listen if you're taking some teens/pre-teens on a long road trip. As a 52-year-old Fantasy-SciFi afficianado (preferring Epic/High/Dark Fantasy, but also consuming LitRPG/WH40K/StarWars offerings), I judge the book worthy of 8.5 stars out of 10.

[NOTE: I very much like the author's interpretation of Wolverine as a reluctantly ethical unstoppable force of an antihero]

Enjoyable
