Most of the low ratings here seem to be attributed to people going in and expecting all horror to be nonstop thriller and bloodsplatter. It's not, and I love it for that (even though I also love campy horror tropes).
I absolutely love that this novel delves into what happens after the initial horror. When the family has accepted that something supernatural is happening but escape is not an option. Its also the healthiest family dynamic I've ever seen and I appreciate it for that.
