Histoire
Everything Is Spiritual is a brief history of how these ideas about creation, love, and connection shaped the author - and can shape every one of us. In this audiobook, Rob Bell explores the concept that what people really want, more than anything, is to understand their purpose here - so much so that it gives them an abiding sense of awe and wonder. And when you embrace where and who you come from and your wounds and pains and regrets, you will discover that there's an invitation lurking there in the mess of life.

In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world.

The great fourth-century church father Basil of Caesarea once observed that, in his time, most Christians believed that hell was not everlasting, and that all would eventually attain salvation. In this momentous book, David Bentley Hart makes the case that nearly two millennia of dogmatic tradition have misled readers on the crucial matter of universal salvation.

When women are told that what is important about us is how we look, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to feel comfortable with our appearance and how we feel about our bodies. How did a libertine who lacks even the most basic knowledge of the Christian faith win 81 percent of the white evangelical vote in 2016? And why have white evangelicals become a presidential reprobate's staunchest supporters? Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account of the last 75 years of white evangelicalism, showing how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism.

If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

The enlightenment you seek in other religions has been present in Christianity from the beginning. Richard Rohr, a global leader in spiritual awakening, helps you recognize the forces (such as ego resistance and dual thinking) that separate you from your deeper self. Then, drawing from Gospels and the greatest Christian contemplatives, he shows you what it means to be spiritually awake. You will learn why your ego resists change and growth, what is useful about popular ideas such as the law of attraction, what Jesus, the first mythical leader in the West, can teach you.
Description
"Holding brain science in one hand and rich emotional presence in the other, this book feels timely and necessary." (Shauna Niequist, New York Times best-selling author of Present Over Perfect)
Why is there such a gap between what you want to do and what you actually do? The host of Ask Science Mike explains why our desires and our real lives are so wildly different - and what you can do to close the gap.
For thousands of years, scientists, philosophers, and self-help gurus have wrestled with one of the basic conundrums of human life: Why do we do the things we do? Or, rather, why do we so often not do the things we want to do? As a podcast host whose voice goes out to millions each month, Mike McHargue gets countless emails from people seeking to understand their own misbehavior - why we binge on Netflix when we know taking a walk outside would be better for us, or why we argue politics on Facebook when our real friends live just down the street. Everyone wants to be a good person, but few of us, 20 years into the new millennium, have any idea how to do that.
In You're a Miracle (and a Pain in the Ass), McHargue addresses these issues. We like to think we're in control of our thoughts and decisions, he writes, but science has shown that a host of competing impulses, emotions, and environmental factors are at play in every action we undertake. Touching on his podcast listeners' most pressing questions, from relationships and ethics to stress and mental health, and sharing some of the biggest triumphs and hardships from his own life, McHargue shows us how some of our qualities that seem most frustrating - including "negative" emotions like sadness, anger, and anxiety - are actually key to helping humans survive and thrive. In doing so, he invites us on a path of self-understanding and, ultimately, self-acceptance.
You're a Miracle (and a Pain in the Ass) is a guided tour through the mystery of human consciousness, showing listeners how to live more at peace with themselves in a complex world.

Ce que les critiques en disent
"Seldom do I find a book that puts together good psychology, readable science, and practical wisdom as what you now have in your hands! You're a Miracle will reveal that Mike McHargue is a bit of a miracle, too." (Richard Rohr, New York Times best-selling author of The Universal Christ)
"This book is full of incredibly important revelations that could change your life. Mike McHargue is not only the smartest person we know, but he has an uncanny ability for communicating complex matters like he's talking to you at a party (not one of those parties with loud music where you can’t really hear what people are saying so you just nod a lot, but instead one of those parties with light piano music, filled with smart and interesting people)." (Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, New York Times best-selling authors of The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek)
"When Mike McHargue writes about the changes in his life from the beginning of the writing process until the end, I nearly cried with relief, because isn’t that how life is for all of us? It changes, sometimes over and over, and right in the middle of all the chaos, we keep showing up, telling the truth, writing the story of our lives even as we struggle to make sense of it ourselves. This book feels human, and that’s one of the highest compliments I can give." (Shauna Niequist, New York Times best-selling author of Present Over Perfect)

Love Mikes honesty
I live how Mike shares helpful things but is so deliberate not to oversell them. Recently another podcaster author/influencer couple/ were revealed to be not genuine and sold expensive tickets/ products based on their own life and marriage- surprising their followers recently they are getting divorced.... all this to say, it is so refreshing to have someone be brutally honest with where they are at and not over promise what their message will do for you. Thank you for all of your care, hard work and love for humanity and the earth. Your podcasts and books have helped me gain a broader understanding and patience for things and people I don’t understand yet, thank you. Wow
Mike has done it again. This book exemplifies the extraordinary way that Mike is able to combine his intelligent analyses with deeply personal and vulnerable storytelling. So it feels like a very engaging class where you learn a ton while also feeling like a friend sharing their deepest feelings and stories with you in a late night conversation. He gives us ways to better understand our minds, bodies, and emotions and paths to greater wholeness while never making you feel judged for deficits in any of these areas or like it’s so simple to do if only you followed his seven steps that all start with the letter A. Also, I love audiobooks in general, but I really love him as a narrator as well. Couldn’t possibly recommend this any higher than I do.
