  • 280: Mama and Infant Loss Survivor - Charla Grim
    Oct 29 2025

    On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we welcome Charla Grim — wife, mama, and a courageous woman who is using her story of love, loss, and motherhood to bring comfort and hope to others. Charla is the mother of three beautiful boys — Mason, Emmett, and Garrison. Emmett was born sleeping. Charla and her husband went to the hospital expecting to welcome their baby boy into the world, but instead heard the words no parent should ever hear: "I'm sorry, your baby doesn't have a heartbeat." Their lives were changed in an instant.

    Nothing in life prepares a parent for that kind of loss. The grief never fully goes away. Yet through the heartbreak, Charla has discovered an inner strength she never knew she had. In the years since losing Emmett, she has learned to carry both love and grief at the same time — and she has chosen to honor her son by sharing her story and lighting the way for others walking through similar pain.

    On Emmett's first birthday, Charla shared a reflection that captured both the heartbreak and beauty of motherhood. She wrote that Emmett made them parents again. He filled their hearts with love and joy. Losing him showed them the strength they didn't know they had. He brought their family closer and transformed their lives forever. Charla still wonders what his laugh would have sounded like, what color his eyes would have been, and what his smile would have looked like — but she knows his light continues to shine through the love he left behind.

    This episode is part of our Every Woman, Every Girl campaign — celebrating the truth that every woman and every girl has power, purpose, and a story worth telling. Charla's story embodies that truth with so much grace and courage.

    In this episode, you'll hear:
    ✨ Charla's story of love, loss, and the day her world changed forever;
    ✨ How she and her family have found strength through heartbreak;
    ✨ The lessons she has learned through grief, loss, and healing;
    ✨ How Emmett's life continues to inspire love, connection, and purpose;
    ✨ And how Charla is honoring her son's light and helping others do the same.

    ✨ And so much more. 💫

  • 277: Mojo in the Morning - Shannon Murphy
    Oct 8 2025

    On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we welcome Shannon Murphy — co-host of iHeartRadio's Mojo in the Morning show, wife, mama, radio personality, and all-around powerhouse woman!

    This episode is a full-circle moment for me because I first met Shannon years ago — when I was a sophomore in college — backstage at a Switchfoot concert. We instantly connected over being from Michigan (she grew up on Grosse Ile, and my grandparents lived there!) and our shared love of music and media. At the time, Shannon was just a few years into her radio career, and I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. And here we are - many years later - with so many stories to tell!

    Since then, I've followed Shannon's career and admired her journey — from Indianapolis to Atlanta, and then back home to Michigan, where she continues to light up the airwaves on Mojo in the Morning. She's built an incredible, long-lasting career in radio and continues to inspire so many people with her authenticity, kindness, and heart for others.

    Beyond the mic, Shannon dedicates so much of her time and energy to giving back — supporting amazing causes like the New Day Foundation, which helps families facing cancer, and Tim Tebow's Night to Shine, which celebrates people with special needs. And so much more! (And by the way, Shannon will be performing at New Day's Celebrity Lip Sync Battle next week — so be sure to grab your tickets today!)

    In this episode, you'll hear:
    ✨ Shannon's story growing up and how she stumbled into radio;
    ✨ What it's really like to balance life, motherhood, and a public career;
    ✨ How she stays grounded, authentic, and true to herself amid life's ups and downs;
    ✨ Her favorite memories from her career (including that unforgettable moment on Regis and Kelly!);
    ✨ The causes and community work closest to her heart;
    ✨ And so much more!

    💫 Shannon is a 1 Girl Revolution — using her voice, her story, and her platform to do good and inspire others. We are so excited to share this inspiring and powerful episode with you!

    Because the truth is: Every woman, every girl is a 1 Girl Revolution.

    In this episode, Kate shares:

    • A breakdown of the real challenges women and girls face today — the crisis of worth, lack of confidence and courage, body image struggles, isolation, women and girls not seeing their value or purpose, and more;

    • The hope and truth that every single woman and girl has the ability to be a world-changer, and more!
