There is a priest named Melchizedek appearing in the Old Testament. When we turn to Genesis chapter 14, we see Abraham taking an army raised and trained in his own house to wage war against Chedorlaomer king of Elam and other kings aligned with him, and rescuing his nephew Lot after defeating them all. At that time, on Abraham’s way back from the war, a priest named Melchizedek brought bread and wine to him and blessed him. So Abraham set aside a tithe of the spoils of the war and gave it to Melchizedek the Priest (Genesis 14:17-20).
