    A resident of Port Washington, NY for over 30 years, Rachel is a staple in our community. Her position as head librarian of the Children’s department at Port Washington Public Library is just one of the many things she does. She is also the creator of “Rachel’s Merchant Monday”, a social media series highlighting local businesses and promoting town pride. Most recently, Rachel’s efforts were recognized as she was named Grand Marshal of the local homecoming parade, “Pride in Port.”

An L.A. native, Nicky moved back to her hometown and beloved Shalom Institute in 2022 after a 33 year absence. With an eclectic background in theatre, education, mindfulness, creativity, social justice and community outreach, Nicky weaves her experience into every aspect of Shemesh Farms.

  • You Gotta Laugh...Through Cancer - Comedian John Ziegler
    Jul 30 2025

    John Ziegler, a Long Island native who uses his comedy to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer. John dreamed of going into stand-up comedy as a child. He made it a reality when he switched careers at age 40. But everything changed after more than a decade on stage when at age 54 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After learning the news, he decided to write a comedy special…and with the help of friends, he did just that! Writing the special from his hospital bed in 2021. Six weeks after chemotherapy, with the help of friends, he taped "Getting My Affairs in Order" at Governors Comedy Club on Long Island. 4 years later John is healthy and happy and continuing to make 'em laugh!
