  • Andromache by Jean Racine is a tragic French play set after the fall of Troy. It centers on the widow Andromache, now a captive of Pyrrhus, son of Achilles. Pyrrhus loves Andromache, but is engaged to Hermione, who loves him desperately. Meanwhile, Orestes arrives, secretly in love with Hermione. When Andromache rejects Pyrrhus to remain faithful to her late husband, chaos ensues. Hermione’s jealousy and Orestes’ obsession lead to betrayal, murder, and suicide.
