Is the Holy Spirit Ever at Odds with the Bible?

Spirit-Led vs. Scripture-Led Christianity (Reformed Theology)

In this Bible lesson, we address a crucial theological question: Is the Holy Spirit ever at odds with Scripture? Many churches today draw a sharp distinction between being “Spirit-led” and being “Bible-led,” but Scripture itself rejects that division. From a Reformed and biblical perspective, the Holy Spirit is the divine author of Scripture, meaning He never contradicts what He has already revealed through the prophets and apostles.

Using passages such as 2 Timothy 3:16–17, 2 Peter 1:21, 1 John 4:1, and Ephesians 2, this lesson explains why the sufficiency of Scripture is essential to true Christian faith and why claims of new revelation must always be tested by God’s written Word. We also discuss spiritual experience, emotion in worship, proper application of Scripture, and the difference between Spirit-led obedience and binding the conscience beyond what Scripture commands.

This teaching is especially relevant for Christians navigating charismatic claims, questions about ongoing revelation, and confusion over what it truly means to be led by the Holy Spirit. If you care about biblical authority, Reformed theology, and faithfulness to God’s Word, this lesson is for you.
