  • Safeguards School Curriculum, with Lynne Little
    Jul 15 2025

Today, Roberta talks to Lynne Little about her book Safeguards School Curriculum: Equipping Kids with Safety Skills, available from New Growth Press.

Because child abuse occurs even in faith-based communities, the Safeguards School Curriculum for elementary-aged students teaches children how to assess and respond to potentially unsafe situations and people.

This six-unit curriculum teaches elementary grades abuse awareness and prevention from a biblical worldview, based on the principles in the book Safeguards, by family counselor Julie Lowe. Written by Lowe, Lynne Little, and Angela Ruiz, all with extensive experience in counseling, education, and curriculum formation, the curriculum emphasizes scriptural truth as the foundation for developing the wisdom and discernment needed by children to be safe.

The curriculum is divided into two age levels (K–grade 2 and grades 3–5) and employs stories, puppets, role plays, crafts, and a variety of hands-on activities to teach about wisdom and discernment. Topics addressed include learning to say no, respect and privacy, being lost, and bullying.

    • Offers a biblical understanding of both the dangers children face and God’s power to overcome.
    • Each lesson includes a take-home paper to educate and equip parents to continue the conversations started at school.
    • First school-based curriculum that combines child safety training with a biblical worldview.
    • Can be used in children’s ministry and homeschool co-op settings.
    • Developed in partnership with the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention, which provides awareness, accreditation, and resources to Christian organizations who are serving children.

The preteen years are hard for everyone—parents and kids! Learn how to navigate these years with grace and love.

The preteen years can be perilous. More than ever kids are bombarded with messages that threaten their emotional health, spiritual growth, and faith. And while the market is flooded with resources for raising children, it’s remarkably scarce on help for navigating difficult preteen days. Using personal stories and examples, Tricia and Leslie’s relatable experiences acknowledge that while the journey isn’t always easy, it’s always worth it. They offer creative and practical ideas and activities that parents, caregivers, or mentors can implement in each of the five key areas, helping them feel more confident in their spiritual roles.

Today, Roberta talks to Tamara Rosier about her new book Your Brain's Not Broken: Strategies for Navigating Your Emotions and Life with ADHD―For Neurodivergent Men and Women or Parents of ADHD Children, available from Revell publishers.

Lose the shame, love your brain, and live better with ADHD

If you have ADHD, your brain doesn't work in the same way as a "normal" or neurotypical brain does because it's wired differently. This difference in circuitry is not somehow wrong, incomplete, or shameful. However, it does present you with significant challenges like time management, organization skills, forgetfulness, trouble completing tasks, mood swings, and relationship problems.

In Your Brain's Not Broken, Dr. Tamara Rosier applies her years of coaching others to explain how ADHD affects every aspect of your life so that you can finally understand why you think, feel, and act the way you do. With this book as your guide, you can dramatically improve your personal and professional life by

    ● understanding the complicated emotional landscape and thought life of those with ADHD
    ● learning how people with ADHD understand time, energy, and motivation
    ● managing your emotions, thought patterns, and actions for your overall emotional health
    ● implementing practical ways to improve your ADHD and neurodivergent symptoms

  • The Yellow Badge, by Addison Crissone
    Jun 29 2025

Today, Roberta talks to Addison Crissone about her new book The Yellow Badge.

The Yellow Badge is a symbol of shame and reproach for those who wear it.

But for some, it's a call to action.

After her parents are arrested and her brother Andrew joins the Dutch Resistance, Ruth DeVos is left to face the uncertain wrath of war alone.

But when faced with persecution and threats of forced labor arise, Ruth has no choice but to seek refuge and go into hiding. Still Waters Inn is the home of an allied Dutchman and many other refugees who are hiding from the clutches of the Nazis. It is here that Ruth joins the Resistance and begins working anonymously for La Libre Belgique- the notorious underground rebel newspaper- and where she meets the quiet and intriguing Ezra Pik.

As the war rages on with no end in sight, hope becomes dire as courage falters and they must all learn to lean on their faith in order to preserve their freedom. But the enemy lurks closer than any of them knew, and whispers of betrayal soon ensnare them as they are handed over to the Germans and their actions are brought to a dangerous light.

In the end, Ruth must take a stand in the face of her enemy and learn the true value of love and liberty, faith and freedom- and what it costs to keep them.
