Our bodies were designed to use folate — Vitamin B9 found in leafy greens, lentils, eggs, citrus, and liver. But most processed foods and many prenatal vitamins use folic acid, a synthetic form that must be converted before the body can use it. And for up to 40–60% of women, that conversion doesn’t happen efficiently.
