  • Taylor Grant
    Sep 22 2025

Perth official and tarmac-rally tragic Taylor Grant has worn a lot of hats at CARCO Raceway: flag marshal, grid, recovery and event ops. He tells us how a flyer from the Wanneroo Flag Marshal crew in 2017 pulled him trackside, why “if you’re going to wave a flag, wave it like you mean it” is gospel, and how WA events have sharpened up—faster recoveries, better training, more new officials. We get into the calm (and the chaos) of race control, and his push to rebuild DriftWest into a proper, championship-style scene.

Plus: Taylor’s own rally journey (gearbox heartbreak included), the bucket-list dream of Le Mans/Singapore, and more.

Plus! Shane whinges yet again about an Australian motorsport legend who was rude to him over 30 years ago.

  • Reginald Ralph
    Sep 15 2025

On this episode of Behind the Sport, we shine a light on one of Western Australia’s most familiar names in the Saloon Car paddock, Reginald “Reg” Ralph. A true grassroots racer, Reg has been a constant presence in the WA Saloon Car Championship and the Australian Saloon Car Nationals, steering his Holden Commodores through years of hard-fought battles.

From podiums at the state level to campaigns on the national stage, Reg’s story isn’t about factory budgets or flash pit set-ups — it’s about passion, persistence, and the love of racing. He takes us inside his career, the highs and lows of mixing it with the country’s best, and what keeps him coming back to the grid round after round.

We also talk about his current season behind the wheel of the #41 Holden VP Commodore, the challenges of staying competitive in a tough category, and why Saloon Cars remain one of the purest and most hard-nosed racing series in Australia.

It’s a chat with a racer who embodies the spirit of club-level motorsport — turning spanners, putting it all on the line, and always ready to say, “let’s go again next round.”

  • Cooper Cutts
    Sep 8 2025

On this episode of Behind the Sport, we sit down with Cooper Cutts, one of Western Australia’s brightest talents in Radical Cup Australia. But this isn’t just a conversation about lap times and trophies.

Cooper opens up about the personal moments that have shaped his journey, and how working with a psychologist has helped him navigate challenges far beyond the race track. He also shares how his father, Terry Cutts — himself a respected racer — instilled in him a motorsport pedigree and an attitude of “we’ll fix it and get back out there” that continues to guide how he tackles setbacks both on and off the circuit.

We also talk racing — from standout Radical Cup performances that have kept him in the title fight, to how his experiences away from the car have changed the way he approaches competition. Looking ahead, Cooper is set to take his development further by heading to Norwell Motorplex for driver training with respected Supercars figure Paul Morris and his team, as he works to sharpen his skills for the next step in his career.

This is an episode about strength in more ways than one. Cooper’s story is a reminder that behind every helmet is a human being, and that talking about the hard stuff can be just as important as celebrating the wins.

Make sure you check out BRIBERY on Spotify, Cooper's band with their just release single "Innuendo"

  • Justin Hunt
    Oct 9 2022

Justin Hunt may be a name you recognise if you've been around motorsport and events for a while in Australia, or perhaps not. He's been involved with some of the biggest motorsport events in Australia at various levels including the never to be repeated Rally Australia super stages in Perth, Western Australia, Australasia Safari and more.

Now, he's bringing to life an event in Joondalup, Western Australia called the Joondalup Festival of Motoring.

We caught up with him to chat about his history, get some funny tales from before things got so strict, the logistics put into running an event like the Safari and of course we hear about the Joondalup Festival of Motoring and what one thing about the event is making it all worthwhile to put his reputation (and more!) on the line to put this event on.
