  • The Oilers rollercoaster goes zoom Pt. 3084
    Nov 12 2025

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about spending a couple of days in Toronto and Montreal, the Oilers' comeback against Columbus, Trent Frederic's fight, and much more.

It's a strange time to be an Edmonton Oilers fan. We have high expectations for the team around these parts, and for the third year in a row, their start to the season has been anything but spectacular. It gets even more interesting when I've been to Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal in a single week. Sticking with the Oilers, how could you not talk about the wild game they had against Columbus, when the team both got booed on home ice and also came back for the win? Part of the story from Monday night was the fight Trent Frederic got into with Mathieu Olivier, and it didn't take long to see the mismatch there when the boys started chuckin' 'em.

Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about airport food prices, then wrapped up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was very quiet again this week, but the limited messages were still fun anyway. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

I thought it was going to be a quick episode and ended up bullshitting for an hour. Shout out to everyone who dropped in on the voicemail this week.

  • Oilers rollercoaster goes zoom, depth scoring, and the World Series
    Oct 29 2025

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster zooming up and down, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to cover it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Nation Vacation to Vancouver, the Oilers' recent run of games, Isaac Howard's steady improvements, Jack Roslovic settling in, and much more.

After wrapping up the intro with a full breakdown of the Vancouver Nation Vacation, I dove into the rollercoaster that is being an Edmonton Oilers fan in 2025. While the Oilers' record isn't actually that bad, the inconsistencies from game to game are undoubtedly frustrating. How the team can go from sloppy and disorganized, as we saw for long stretches against Seattle and Vancouver, to being a total wrecking ball against the Utah Mammoth makes no sense whatsoever. Even though we're used to knowing how well Edmonton can play and watching them fall short of that bar early in the season, that doesn't make the frustration any less, even if no one is particularly worried in the long term.

Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about player fines before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was very quiet again this week, but the limited messages were still fun regardless. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

  • Oilers win, Connor McDavid scored, and Jake Walman is so back
    Oct 22 2025

It's been a busy week around here with the Oilers wrapping up their five-game road trip, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to cover it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' losing streak, Jake Walman’s return, Isaac Howard’s first NHL goal, and much more.

After a run of three horrible (read: painful) losses in a row, the Oilers got themselves back into the win column on Tuesday night against the Senators. As much as it was nice to see the boys grab two points, I’d be lying if I said it would have been cool to see them get there without taking the hardest road possible. The good news is that Jake Walman made his return to the lineup in Detroit, and it didn’t take him long to make an impact. Even with reduced minutes in his return, having Walman back felt right, given all the things he tends to do well. Not enough good news for you? Connor McDavid also scored last night in Detroit, proving that he does indeed still remember how to do that if any of you were concerned.

Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about player fines before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quiet again this week, but the messages were still fun anyway. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

  • Oilers win two, Stuart Skinner's shutout, and NHL fines make no sense
    Oct 15 2025

It's been a busy week around here, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to hit your ear holes with another dose of Oilers adjacent shenanigans. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers bouncing back from their season opener loss, Stuart Skinner doing what he can to shut up the haters, Jack Roslovic's Edmonton debut, and much more.

After a tough loss to the Calgary Flames in the season opener, the Edmonton Oilers rebounded with a pair of wins over the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers. While those two wins came after very different games and with very different heroes, the larger point is that our boys found a way to win despite two vastly different styles on the ice. Not only were those wins important, but I also got the chance to pump Stuart Skinner's tires a little bit after quieting down the haters with his first shutout of the season. Finally, I wrapped up the news with a quick look at Jack Roslovic's Oilers debut, and wondered whether he can do enough in the next few weeks to cement his spot in the lineup.

Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about player fines before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quiet again this week, but the messages were as varied as they were entertaining. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

  • A busy Oilers contract week, the season opener, and more goalie talk
    Oct 10 2025

It's been a busy week around here, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to hit your ear holes with another dose of Oilers adjacent shenanigans. On today’s podcast, I talked about Ryder and Lisa’s show announcement that will be coming to ON in November, the Oilers’ season opener, and a handful of contract extensions that locked in key pieces on the roster. Between the nostalgia, excitement, and chaos, it’s been one of those weeks that makes you realize how deeply this city lives and breathes both its media and its hockey team.

With the 2025–26 campaign officially underway, there’s no shortage of storylines to dive into. Connor McDavid’s extension finally dropped, Mattias Ekholm is sticking around, and Jake Walman secured a new deal to keep Edmonton’s blue line steady for years to come. From roster chemistry to expectations for opening night, I went through it all. Needless to say, there’s plenty to celebrate, plenty to debate, and a whole lot to be excited about as the Oilers get back to business.

Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week, and the messages were as varied as they were entertaining. The voicemail is always a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

  • Mattias Ekholm extension emergency pod!
    Oct 8 2025
Nothing like a good news week for our beloved Edmonton Oilers to raise the vibes around here in the hours leading up to the season opener. So when Mattias Ekholm's contract extension was announced earlier this morning, I knew I had to jump on with another emergency pod.

  • Connor McDavid contract day!
    Oct 6 2025
Connor McDavid and Jake Walman signed extensions today and that meant I had to jump on for a quick emergency pod. Am I excited? Yes. Did I swear more than ever before? Also yes.
