In the Old Testament, when a sinner brought a sacrificial animal to offer to God, he had to believe that while it was he who had to die for his sins, his sacrificial offering instead accepted his sins with the laying on of his hands and bled to death for his sins on his behalf. All those who are to have this faith must believe with their hearts that God has remitted away all their sins according to the sacrificial system of the Tabernacle—that is, by passing all their sins onto their offerings of sacrifice and drawing the animals’ blood.
