À propos de cet audio
In the past few days the biography of Charlie Kirk has taken a truly historic and heartbreaking turn. On September 10 Charlie Kirk—founder of Turning Point USA conservative activist and husband and father—was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem Utah. ABC News reported that Kirk was on stage before a crowd of around 3000 for the first stop of his American Comeback Tour when a 22-year-old named Tyler Robinson allegedly shot him from a nearby rooftop. Kirk was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital but didn’t survive. President Donald Trump announced the news of Kirk’s death on Truth Social stating The Great and even Legendary Charlie Kirk is dead and offering sympathies to Kirks family. Messages of condolence have poured in from both sides of the political aisle and a somber national conversation unfolded.
Within 33 hours, Robinson was taken into custody in Washington County, Utah, after his father recognized him in surveillance images and persuaded him to turn himself in, a detail confirmed at a state press conference and widely reported. The event—and the frenzied search for the suspect—have dominated headlines and prompted widespread reaction across social media. Supporters, former critics, and public figures have used platforms like X and Facebook to mourn, comment, and sometimes sharply debate Kirks complex legacy. Education Week detailed a wave of public firings and suspensions of teachers following inflammatory or celebratory social media comments about Kirk’s assassination, fueling debates about free speech, political violence, and the responsibilities of public employees online.
In response to the tragedy, Turning Point USA announced a massive public memorial celebration for Kirk to be held September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home to the NFL’s Cardinals with space for 63000 people. According to Fox News President Trump intends to attend, reflecting the significance Kirk held among conservative leaders. Kirks widow Erika Kirk meanwhile appeared in national interviews vowing to carry on her husband’s vision and grow Turning Point USA to even greater heights.
The White House has issued a proclamation honoring Kirk’s memory and flags have been ordered at half-mast in some states. Tributes on TPUSA’s social accounts describe Kirk’s life as a “guiding light for generations.” Kirk’s tour, which was to continue to campuses across the country, is now marked by mourning and tributes instead. As the public gathers for a massive celebration of his life, the future of Turning Point USA and conservative youth activism may well be shaped by the shock and scope of this moment.
