  • The Test of the Two Talent Servant - Matthew 25
    Oct 14 2025

The parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 often focuses on the extremes - the successful five-talent servant and the fearful one-talent servant. However, the two-talent servant represents most of us, occupying that relatable middle ground between those who seem to have more and those who have less. His story reveals three essential tests that every faithful steward must pass. The first is the eye test - learning to focus on your assignment rather than getting trapped in comparison. The two-talent servant could have wasted time wondering why others received more or analyzing how he was better than the one-talent servant. Instead, he demonstrates the wisdom of minding your own business while still learning from the community around him. The second test is the ear test, which involves hearing and following God's voice. Unlike the one-talent servant who had an irrational fear of his master, the two-talent servant understood his master's heart and expectations. He chose to follow the example of the faithful five-talent servant rather than the fearful one, showing humility in learning from someone else's success. The most crucial test is the heart test - the foundation of trust that reveals our true relationship with God. Poor stewardship isn't really about resources; it's about the condition of our hearts and how we relate to the One who has trusted us with what belongs to Him. Every steward has a twofold responsibility: to protect what they've been given and to expand it. God never expects to receive back exactly what He gave - His expectation is increase alongside protection. The two-talent servant succeeded because he understood that faithfulness requires both preservation and multiplication, demonstrating trust in his master's character and living with a kingdom agenda for everything entrusted to him.

  • A Counter, for a Crown - James 1
    Sep 30 2025

James 1:2-4 presents a counter-intuitive approach to life's difficulties, inviting us to count it all joy when facing trials of various kinds. This perspective transforms how we view challenges - not as punishments to endure, but as opportunities for spiritual growth. Using the equation E + R = O (Events + Response = Outcome), we're reminded that while we can't control life's events, we absolutely control our responses, which significantly influence outcomes.God allows trials to take us through a specific progression: testing of faith, development of steadfastness, and ultimately maturity and completeness. This divine process often contradicts our desire for immediate resolution. As Dr. Tony Evans notes, God applies the iron of trials to the wrinkles of our lives so that Jesus Christ looks good when he wears us. The priorities revealed in this journey show that while we want relief, God wants refinement; we seek convenience, but God desires commitment; we crave satisfaction, while God works for our sanctification.Jesus himself modeled this approach, enduring the cross for the joy set before him (Hebrews 12:1-2). When we respond to life's challenges with joy, we demonstrate our love for God and confuse the enemy with our supernatural response. This perspective helps us persevere, knowing that God who began a good work in us will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). No matter what test we face, we never face it alone - God's wisdom and presence are available to us through every trial.

  • Courage for Crisis - John 16
    Sep 23 2025

No matter how faithfully we live, difficulties are an unavoidable part of life. Even the most devoted believers face challenges, but as Christians, we're accountable for how we navigate these storms because we've been given the resources to handle them in a particular way. In John 16:33, Jesus provides a formula for finding courage during crisis, stating that in Him we may have peace, despite tribulation in the world.Jesus emphasizes that true peace is found IN Him—not in other relationships, isolation, or controlling our circumstances. This isn't ordinary peace; it's a peace that 'surpasses all understanding' and guards our hearts and minds. It's the same peace that sustained biblical figures like Noah, Joseph, Daniel, and David through their trials. Jesus doesn't hide the reality that tribulation will come, even warning that following Him marks us for persecution because our obedience exposes error in others' lives. Yet His command is simple: 'Take heart.' We can face life's storms with courage not because of our own strength, but because Jesus has already overcome the world. He has defeated our greatest adversaries—Satan, sin, and death—making all other challenges pale in comparison. As believers, there should be a clear distinction in how we navigate difficult days, standing boldly in faith because He holds tomorrow.
