A practicing attorney and father of five, he has spent over thirty years advocating for children as a pro bono guardian ad litem and representing families of first responders killed on 9/11. Joan K. Peters was born in New York City and got her Ph.D in comparative literature from The University of Chicago. She's published a novel and two books about women and work and is a professor emeritus of literature and writing at California State University at Channel Islands.
