Sam Steel had a game-high three point night (3 assists), but the Dallas Stars felt short to the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers 4-3 in a shootout tonight at Amerant Bank Arena. Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist, Wyatt Johnston scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year and Justin Hryckowian tallied his first career NHL goal, helping the Stars take the Panthers into overtime. Florida received goals from Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett. Marchand would score the only shootout goal, with both Tyler Seguin and Mikko Rantanen hitting the goal post behind Sergei Bobrovsky on their attempts. The Dallas Stars extended their point streak to five games (3-0-2), but had their three-game winning streak come to an end tonight with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena. Tyler Seguin played in his 1,000th career NHL game, Adam Erne scored his first goal as a Dallas Star and Jake Oettinger shined, stopping 30-of-32 shots on the night. Brandon Hagel scored a second period power play goal for Tampa Bay and Anthony Cirelli scored the game-winner on a breakaway in overtime. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 20 saves on 21 shots to record the victory. We have enough content today for three or four separate shows! Officially announced last night after the Dallas Stars 1-0 win over the Washington Capitals, Thomas Harley has signed an eight-year, $84.696 million contract extension to keep him with the Stars through the 2033-34 season. Yesterday afternoon the Dallas Morning News dropped two bombshell stories. First, the Dallas Mavericks ownership filed a lawsuit against the Dallas Stars ownership in Texas Business Court over an alleged breach of contract, while also making claims that the Stars have obstructed further maintenance and improvements to American Airlines Centers – claims of which the Stars executives vehemently deny. Then, another article dropped reporting that the Stars are considering a new $1 billion arena in Plano, TX at the Shops at Willow Bend Mall site. Another chapter dropped this morning, when Lia Assimakopoulos, the Stars beat writer for the DMN, reported that the Stars late last night have filed a countersuit against the Mavericks.
