À propos de cet audio

The podcast will touch upon many subjects related to aging, senior life, church life, scripture and God’s plan for us. Most podcasts will involve discussion and interviews with the host and guests. It is Finishing Well's desire that by sharing and exploring God’s plan for older citizens in this podcast, seniors will gain a better understanding of ways they can finish well. It is also our hope that seniors will thereby find greater joy in their lives than they had ever imagined for their aging years. We will endeavor to help the listener understand the role he or she already has as a senior seeking to finish well. We will also strive to illustrate how the finishing well track can fill a void too many of us feel about our worth, our value and our purpose in our aging years. If we are able to clarify the message we know the Lord wants all of us to grasp, we hope the listener will find a renewed sense of purpose, meaning and joy in his or her life every day.

  • Special Series #14: HEZEKIAH - Biblical Characters and How They Finished

Hezekiah's story started well, very well. He became king at age 25 and "did right in the sight of the Lord" (2 Kings 18.1-3). He removed false idols, trusted in the LORD, and clung to Him faithfully.

When Hezekiah was afflicted with a terminal illness, the prophet Isaiah told him: "Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live" (2 Kings 20.1). Hezekiah prayed desperately, and God responded by giving him 15 more years of life.

When envoys from Babylon came to visit him after his recovery, Hezekiah showed off all his treasures rather than testifying to God's faithfulness. Isaiah prophesied that all these treasures would one day be carried off to Babylon.

Hezekiah gave no return for the benefit he received, because his heart was proud; therefore wrath came on him and Judah and Jerusalem. (2 Chronicles 32.25)

What would we do with 15 years if God added them to our lives? Would we live them for ourselves or would we live those extra years for God? Hezekiah's son Manasseh was born during these extra 15 years, yet grew up to be one of Judah's most wicked kings. This suggests that Hezekiah failed to invest spiritually in his son during his extended years.

    Moses 120 years of Purpose

Hal Habecker continues his series on How Characters from the Bible Finished their Lives

We meet Moses in Exodus 2, where God protected him from Pharaoh's death threats and sovereignly led him to grow up in Pharaoh's house during his first 40 years.

At age 80, Moses was entrusted with leading Israel out of Egypt. Despite his failures, including striking the rock at Meribah (Numbers 20), Moses pressed on to fulfill his purpose. One of his final tasks was completing Joshua's training and commissioning him to lead Israel into the promised land.

Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance." (Deuteronomy 31.7)

God completed Moses' life with a personal burial. What a picture of beauty. God was pleased with His servant's life of 120 years.
