Simeon was not the only one waiting for the Messiah. While Simeon is prophesying over the baby Jesus, Anna approaches. Anna has been a widow for a long time. She has spent that time dependent upon God. She shows her dependence by waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem and telling others about God's promised Messiah.

Luke 2:21-35 "The Consolation of Israel"

This sermon looks at Simeon and the Consolation of Israel. Simeon is waiting; he is waiting for the "consolation of Israel." The Holy Spirit has told him that his waiting will be rewarded at the Temple.

It is at the Temple that he meets Joseph, Mary, & the baby Jesus. And Jesus is the long-awaited Consolation of Israel. Simeon shows this in his song. Jesus is his peace, his salvation, and the light of the nations.
