  • Personal Finance Basics: Debt
    Jan 5 2026
We've mastered our Income and controlled our Expenses. Today, we confront the consequence of spending more than we make: Debt. If you feel the burden—the constant payments, the rising interest—you are not alone. Debt is a tool that, when misused, becomes a burden that severely limits your generosity and your future potential. In this episode, we offer grace for where you are, expose the debt traps the world sets, and give you the proven, behavior-based coaching plan to achieve total financial freedom.Key Takeaways & Action StepsGrace and Truth: If you are currently relying on debt, it is okay. This is a common struggle, and you are not alone. We dismiss the shame and look to God for the strength to follow a proven plan. The World's Trap: The debt industry (credit cards, points, rewards) is designed to make them money. The national credit card debt currently exceeds a trillion dollars, showing how common this trap is.Classifying Debt (The Kingdom View): While we acknowledge "Good Debt" (like a mortgage) and "Bad Debt" (credit cards), we coach you to treat all debt as temporary and urgent.Bad Debt (The Chains): High-interest, consumer debt. Primary Target.Good Debt (The Tools): Debt on appreciating assets. Targeted after consumer debt is gone. The Most Powerful Strategy: The Debt Snowball: This is the behavioral plan that gets you quick wins and builds momentum:List all debts from smallest balance to largest balance (ignore the interest rate).Pay minimums on all but the smallest.Attack the smallest debt with all your available cash flow.Once the smallest is paid off, roll that entire payment amount onto the next smallest debt.Preparation for the Fight: Before the Snowball rolls, you must:Stop the Bleeding: Cut up your credit cards and commit to no new debt.Inventory Your Enemy: Create your smallest-to-largest Debt Snowball list.Find the Fuel: Launch your Zero-Based Budget to find the extra cash flow to throw at that first debt. When you break the chains of debt, every dollar you earn is redirected back to your household—freeing up massive cash flow for generosity and purpose. If you are ready for the personalized coaching and accountability to launch your Debt Snowball plan today, I want you to connect with me directly. • Personal Finance Basics: Expenses - Controlling Where Your Money Goes
    Dec 29 2025
Last week we mastered our Income. Now, we tackle the area where most people fail: Expense Control. As one brother once told me, "It doesn’t matter how much you make; it matters how you spend the money you make." If you feel trapped, it’s because you haven’t taken authority over your cash flow.In this episode, we treat expense control as the active side of stewardship, giving you the practical tools—like the Four Walls—to plug the leaks and redirect God's provision toward your financial goals.Key Takeaways & Action StepsExpense Control is Discipline: A good steward guards the resources entrusted to him by preventing waste. Controlling your expenses is key to moving forward on your financial roadmap.Classifying Your Costs: To budget effectively, you must distinguish between the two types of expenses:Fixed Expenses (The Non-Negotiable): Costs that are generally the same amount every month (e.g., mortgage, debt minimums).Variable Expenses (The Controllable): Costs that change monthly based on your choices (e.g., groceries, entertainment). This is where you find cash to balance your budget. The Big Categories (The Four Walls): When budgeting, prioritize your basic needs in this strict order before addressing luxuries:HousingFood (Groceries, not restaurants)TransportationUtilities Segment: Choosing Your Intensity: You get to choose the pace of your progress. We discuss the spectrum of sacrifice, from the Maximum Intensity ("beans and rice") approach for fast wins, to a Steady Pace. The choice is yours, but every action must be guided by prayer and a focus on following how God directs you.Your Action: The Expense Audit: Print out two months of bank statements and review every single charge. Categorize it all to calculate your average monthly spending. This number becomes the starting point for your new, realistic budget.Your personal finances are an area of stewardship. Your primary goal is always to follow how God is directing you and your spouse.Controlling your expenses is how you gain the power to tell your money where to go. But tracking it all and sticking to the plan can be hard alone. If you are ready for the accountability to execute the Expense Audit, find the extra cash, and begin crushing debt, click the link below to connect with me directly.
