The public victory always gets the attention, but it is the private battles that must be won that always precede the pedestal. Jesus teaches us to pray when others sleep. To wage war and win in the garden of Gethsemane, before conquering Golgotha. We can’t imagine the weight of crucifixion, but also unimaginable is the weight of the curse of sin, and wrath of a Holy God that was going to be absorbed by Jesus upon the cross. Submitting to the Father’s will in spite of suffering is a lesson for each of us. Ministry is usually most anointed and effective when the person who is serving God has been broken and suffered greatly. However, none of us want to suffer. This private submitting to the Father’s will is critical to any Christian who wants to serve God, and follow the example of our Lord and Savior.
