À propos de cet audio

We all remember the most awesome things from our childhood as we grew up over the years. But are all those cool things still as great as you remember? Or does it all just seem that way due to the rose-colored lenses of nostalgia? This Podcast aims to answer that very question across a range of topics. Are you a disco kid? Did you grow up during the greatest decade for music and hairbands? Are your favorite memories all from the final years of the 20th century? Then you're in good company as Jeffrey, Andy, Michael, and Mike (Yes, we have two of them) answer the question: Is it Cool or Just Nostalgia?

Are Polaroid & Fujifilm Instax instant cameras still worth buying in 2025 — or are they just pretty nostalgia? 📸✨ In this episode we put the some of these instant cameras through real-world tests: print quality, low-light performance, cost-per-shot, portability, and — most importantly — whether the prints still feel special. 🎞️🔥 Not gonna lie, you might want to check this one out on YouTube instead!!!

    34:01 Cool vs. Nostalgia results

The eternal struggle is fought here between what is genuinely cool and timeless for every generation versus those things that are pure nostalgia and only seem great because of your childhood memories. Whether it’s Ghostbusters, Star Wars, James Bond, Super Mario, Star Trek, or Marvel Comics vs DC, we cover all our favorite things from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. After each of us thoroughly discuss the episode’s topic, the group votes to decide whether it is still Cool or Just Nostalgic. Every episode we'll bring a theme that Jeffrey, Michael, Andy, or Mike will have to present a topic for voting related to that theme. We will state our case on things like Nintendo, Retro Arcades, Throwback Songs of the 70s, 80, 90s, and early 2000s, or even cars from film and television. Will we sway to others to believe our topic is still cool? Or will they vote that our love for it is simply nostalgia?

  • 013 - HitClips: The Comeback We Didn't Know We Needed?
    Sep 3 2025

HitClips (Tiger Electronics) revisited: the tiny Y2K music players that sold MILLIONS—do they still hold up or do they need an evil overhaul? 🎧📼

In this episode, we revisit HitClips, the early-2000s toy line that let you play 60ish-second snippets of the biggest pop songs—*Britney Spears, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Destiny’s Child and more—on keychain-sized players and micro boomboxes. We break down how the format exploded on schoolyards, why it worked on kids (and parents), and whether any of it still plays in 2025. ⚡

    What we cover:

    • The origin story and launch during the Y2K pop wave 👾

    • How each “clip” was a one-minute, low-fi mono mix made to be collectible

    • Marketing magic: fast-food tie-ins, TV promos, and various form-factors 🖋️

    • Sales milestones: 20M+ units by 2002, ~30M by 2004 🧮

    • The later 2-minute “disc” cartridges ✨

    • Was this a music gateway for kids—or just brilliant merch?

    • Testing the REAL-DEAL, player close-ups, and live reactions! 👂

    • How we think it could work today 🤔

🐢 How Jim Henson’s Creature Shop brought the Turtles to life with groundbreaking animatronic suits that still look amazing in HD

🗡️ Why the darker, grittier tone of TMNT (1990)—closer to the Mirage comics—helped it smash box office records as the highest-grossing independent film of its time 🎭 How Secret of the Ooze pivoted to lighter comedy and fewer on-screen weapons after backlash from parents’ groups

🎤 The legacy of Ninja Rap and Vanilla Ice—campy perfection or pure cringe?
