  • 122. War of the Worlds (2025)
    Sep 2 2025

This week, we review War of the Worlds (2025), director Rich Lee’s modern, “screenlife” twist on H. G. Wells’s iconic sci-fi thriller. Ice Cube stars as DHS agent Will Radford, juggling the chaos of a looming alien invasion and an invasive surveillance state — all through the lens of screens and apps. With Eva Longoria as the NASA ally Sandra, the film explores data privacy, government overreach, and digital surveillance. As meteors fall and alien machines emerge from every data center, the stakes go from father-daughter drama to a full-scale fight for humanity’s informational lifeblood.

Is this adaptation a surveillance-state nightmare or a cheeky tech‑centric rediscovery of a classic? Listen on to find out!

  • 121. The Bedroom Window (1987)
    Aug 26 2025

This week, we review The Bedroom Window (1987), Curtis Hanson’s suspenseful neo-noir thriller steeped in voyeurism, deception, and moral ambiguity. Quentin Tarantino recommended it so we thought why not. Steve Guttenberg stars as Terry, a Baltimore businessman who becomes entangled in a murder investigation after his affair with his boss’s wife, played by Isabelle Huppert, leads him to report a crime he didn’t actually witness. Elizabeth McGovern co-stars as the potential next victim, drawing Terry deeper into a dangerous cat-and-mouse game.

With a Hitchcockian setup of mistaken identity and unreliable perception, this film raises intriguing questions about truth, responsibility, and the cost of good intentions gone awry.

Is seeing believing, or is lying for love a killer move? Listen on to find out!

  • 120. Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
    Aug 19 2025

    Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

Movie 120 on Metacritic’s all time movie list. This week, we review Grave of the Fireflies (1988), Isao Takahata’s devastating war-time animated drama from Studio Ghibli. Tsutomu Tatsumi and Ayano Shiraishi voice Seita and Setsuko, two siblings struggling to survive in the aftermath of the firebombing of Kobe during World War II. With harrowing scenes of loss, resilience, and the collapse of innocence, this film raises haunting questions about the human cost of war and the fragility of childhood. If this is a “cartoon,” why are we crying into our popcorn before the opening credits finish? Listen now to find out!
