  • E107: John Morgan - Brown Belt
    Dec 13 2025

John Morgan is a Brown Belt at Newbury BJJ having started back in 2018, and recently hosted a 24 hour Rollathon raising money for REORG. We talk about what Jiu Jitsu actually is, and why it's such a great thing to start doing, for positive mental health as well as weight loss. If you want to feel welcomed into a new community, start training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

John shares how as he progressed through the belts he noticed he was using less effort, and became comfortable, coasting through training. His coach gave him some feedback to go and get tougher rounds, but what is most impressive is that John had the self-awareness to continue to improve his knowledge and experience in Jiu Jitsu.

If you're interested in joining a Jiu Jitsu camp, John has some helpful advice for us White and Blue Belts that might be thinking of booking a week or weekend camp for 2026.

  • E101: Jon Jarvis - Black Belt
    Nov 1 2025

Jon Jarvis is a Black Belt, and Owner of Kent Grapple basing in Sittingbourne, Kent. He started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in his early twenties after being inspired by a Head and Arm Triangle secured by Brock Lesner back in the day.

Jon started his competition career during his White and Blue Belt, and continues to build resilience of not giving up, through to his Brown Belt days when he commenced his journey into starting his own Jiu Jitsu school.

One of the challenges Jon is seeking to overcome is returning to competition. Many of us, as we continue our Jiu Jitsu journeys and progress through life may grow further away from the competitive nature of Submission Only and Competitions, however returning to grow our resilience as we age is something to consider.
