Kansas State’s defense has one mission on Saturday — stop Jalon Daniels. The Wildcats have dominated this rivalry for nearly two decades, but the 17-year streak and in-state edge are on the line in Lawrence. Joe Klanderman knows this Kansas offense is unlike anything else in the Big 12. It’s diverse, fast, and unpredictable — the kind that gives coordinators nightmares. With Tobi Osunsanmi out for the season, the Wildcats will rely on Ryan Davis, Jordan Allen, and true freshman Dalton Knapp to keep containment and apply pressure on one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the country. Klanderman said it himself — “what Kansas did last week has no bearing on what they’ll do this week.” The Jayhawks change everything, every week. That means discipline and communication are everything. The defense needs to recreate the chaos from TCU — turnovers, pressure, and pursuit — if Kansas State wants to move this streak to 17. Then, the focus flips to Avery Johnson and the offense. Matt Wells opened his press conference with a mantra: “Touchdown. First down. Get down.” Avery’s competitiveness is his strength — but against Kansas, he must play smart and know exactly where the sticks are. Wells also praised Sam Hecht’s leadership on the offensive line and Joe Jackson’s maturity, saying Jackson “was a young player before the season; he’s not now.” With Dylan Edwards still sidelined, Jackson’s growth has kept this offense balanced and confident. Kansas has struggled to stop the run — and that’s where K-State can seize control. The combination of Johnson’s legs, Jackson’s power, and a tightened-up line gives Matt Wells the freedom to dictate tempo. Add in Garrett Oakley’s red-zone threat and Linkon Cure’s emergence in his first in-state rivalry game, and this matchup could swing on execution, not talent. Everything is on the line — the streak, the bragging rights, and the recruiting edge inside Kansas. If the Wildcats want to keep their dominance alive, they must contain Jalon Daniels and play the cleanest football game of their season.
