  • episode 77: the story about eating disorder recovery and sobriety with Heather Lasco
    Sep 19 2024

We can't believe this season is already coming to an end but here it is, the final episode, and trust us, it's a good one! Ali and Hannah are sitting down with Heather Lasco, a registered dietitian specializing in eating disorders and the founder of Confidentially Nourished. In this powerful conversation, Heather opens up about her experience battling an eating disorder during her dietetics education and early career, and how that journey now drives her passion for supporting others with eating disorders, especially those facing weight stigma in healthcare. Heather shares the many ways her lived experiences have shaped her practice today and the three discuss the impact of their formal education in dietetics on mental health and disordered eating beliefs. Together, they explore everything from internalized fatphobia to the importance of self-care as practitioners, and how sneaky diet culture still finds its way into their lives, especially during major life transitions like postpartum. Do dietitians need to see other dietitians for nutritional counseling? How do different maladaptive coping strategies like alcohol use and disordered eating impact each other? How to stay strong and supported in recovery during times of high stress? Hit play to catch all the insights, personal stories, and powerful truths as Ali, Hannah, and Heather wrap up the season with a bang!

  • episode 75: the story about becoming a weight-inclusive endocrinologist with Dr. Gregory Dodell
    Sep 5 2024

In this week's episode Hannah and Ali are excited to welcome their trusted colleague Dr. Gregory Dodell. Gregory is an endocrinologist based out of NYC and also happens to be married to past guest and friend of the pod @theantidietplan's Alexis Conason so you know these 3 had LOTS to talk about. Over the years, Gregory has transformed his practice from a more restrictive, weight-centric approach to a weight-inclusive practice, where his focus is on helping his patients feel good, adding food in not forbidding and not focusing on a certain number on the scale. In this episode, Gregory shares his personal story as a practitioner learning and unlearning a weight centric approach to diabetes and hormone care, to discussions about Ozempic, why language around weight in health care is so important, navigating weight centric colleagues and so much more! What are the potential benefits and harms of Ozempic? Is "obesity" really a chronic disease? How can the medical system become less weight-centric?

This episode is for all those who have been told by a doctor to lose weight to support a chronic health condition or who are wanting a perspective they can trust when it comes to all the noise in the media about Ozempic or meds like it. They have said it before and won't stop saying it- weight loss isn't a behavior! Tune in this week to hear Gregory, Hannah and Ali explain this and so much more!
