    Pubblicato a puntate dal 1899 al 1900, fu riconosciuto come un capolavoro mondiale della letteratura. Il romanzo è complesso nella sua narrazione: Lord Jim, un eroe definito "romantico" da Marlow, che è il narratore della storia (come in altri romanzi di Conrad, si tratta di una storia nella storia), partito come un adolescente in cerca di avventure, viene presto abbattuto dalla vita e costretto spietatamente a conoscere una sua debolezza. Da quel momento, aiutato dallo stesso Marlow, trova la sua ultima occasione in uno di quegli scenari dei mari del sud tanto cari all'autore. Ma se la sua ultima occasione sia una redenzione o un atto di ulteriore illusione, è una domanda a cui l'autore, attraverso la voce di Marlow, lascia che sia il lettore a rispondere. Scrittura misteriosa, affascinante, suggestiva e senza tempo, ha reso intramontabile il personaggio di Lord Jim.
