The Detroit Tigers were unable to generate any offense and were defeated by the Houston Astros, who took home a 4-1 victory at Minute Maid Park. Detroit’s Wenceel Perez broke up the Astros no-hit bid in the top of the 8th. Ronel Blanco went seven innings without allowing a hit, but Ryan Pressly gave up the hit with 1 out in the 8th. Kenta Maeda started on the mound for Detroit, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on five hits, including a three-run homer by Jose Altuve. Relievers Tyler Holton and Jason Foley pitched well in relief but the damage was done early. Astros starter Ronel Blanco held the Tigers hitless through seven innings, striking out eight and walking three, while Ryan Pressly and Josh Hader closed it out for Houston. With this loss, the Detroit Tigers will aim to rebound in their upcoming series.

Detroit Tigers News: Detroit Tigers dominated Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Riley Greene hit two home runs and brought home 5 RBI in the 11-0 win while Jack Flaherty was lights out on the mound tossing 5 scoreless innings. Riley Greene turned in a four hit game for the first time in his career. Matt Vierling, and Carson Kelly also hit home runs as the Tigers scored double digit runs for the 5th time this season en route to the win. Wenceel Perez and Mark Canha also had runs batted in as the Tigers bounce back one day after being shut out by the Houston Astros. Houston Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti had a tough day on the mound allowing 7 earned runs in just 1.1 innings pitched. Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber match Sunday afternoon. Kenta Maeda will pitch for the Detroit Tigers in the series finale in MLB action against the Houston Astros tomorrow afternoon.
