  • MD 406 - GART: Goblin Art Collective w/ CJ Somavia (GLAIVE, Grand Rituals, Hothead Collective)
    Sep 17 2025

This week’s guest is CJ Somavia. We talk about Hothead Collective (which is pretty much CJ and whoever he’s working with), Grand Rituals (a system agnostic toolset to introduce big magical rituals into your fantasy TTRPG), and GLAIVE (a quarterly glossy magazine dedicated to gaming and its subcultures). We discuss the difference between a magazine and a zine.

MD 406 - GART: Goblin Art Collective w/ CJ Somavia

GART is a collective of murderous, vapid, goblin hipsters snobs, always fighting amongst themselves about what the full name of their crew should be.

    1. Bushwick Billy - Has a streetwear brand, magazine and physical store called BILE.
    2. Greenpoint Gary - This performance art skateboarder douche does pop shove-its into your ankle or ollies onto your toes… although, he’s incapable of doing a kickflip. He’ll challenge you to a game of S-K-A-T-E.
    3. Van GoBlin - This impressionist painter chops off other people’s ears.
    4. Williamsburg Wendy - This fashion influencer skins and mutilates a victim to prepare their skin as clothing.
    5. Red Hook Reggie - This hipster pirate taxidermies frankenstein fish.
    6. Brooklyn Banksy - This political artist makes sculpture houseboat… and murder, his true art.

    MD 405 - H.O.M.E.: Sly Motherships w/ Jarrett Crader

On the top of a frozen mountaintop is H.O.M.E., the current nesting grounds of sentient spaceships called motherships. Each mothership lies hidden under the snow where it has burrowed a nest to incubate their kinderships in the cold. Nesting grounds can be found in any planet’s arctic conditions during their nesting season.

Each metallic black mothership is the size of a city, and has a birthing canal that slingshots out 1d4 kinderships at the conclusion of the birthing season. They launch out of this tube at rocket speed, flying into space before returning to their mothership.

The motherships defend themselves with a psychedelic avalanche of kaleidoscopic snow. When hit, you go on a psychedelic trip for 1d4 days. People use this as a recreational drug called S.N.O.W.

Snow Angels are a thrill-seeking hobbyist group that follows the motherships to their birthing grounds to have a big gay dance party surrounding the birthing event. They sell mag-boots specifically designed to traverse a mothership’s exterior and subdue the effects of psychedelic avalanches to recreational levels.

Kinderships are one-of-a-kind smaller sentient spaceships that can fit a crew of 2-10 people, depending on the ship’s proportions. They grow very slowly, over hundreds of years, to eventually become a mothership. They will stay with their parental mothership until they find a crew that’s worthy of them.

MD 404 - Championship Belt of the Verdant Wastes w/ W.F. Smith

The Championship Belt of the Verdant Wastes was created by a primeval nature spirit named Creature of the Green. The belt has its own ecosystem of greenery, moss and fungus that’s seen with the naked eye, but on its surface is a civilization of microscopic mushroom folk called Foos.

Like professional wrestlers and gods, the belt gains its power through devotion to the wearer. You must complete a previous level before moving on to the next level.

Level 1: The Foos worship you as their god. When you walk, a trail of lush greenery follows your steps. As The Green Walker, you can be a savoir to the wastelands.

Level 2: A crowd is currently cheering you on. Conjure vines to create a pro wrestling stadium with a ring for 24 hours. You gain bonuses for performing rope maneuvers.

Level 3: You’re currently a verdant avatar for the Creature of the Green. Grow into a 300-foot tall plant kaiju that you control from the inside like a mech.
