Mech & Matter is a podcast created by a student, for students. This podcast aims to connect the worlds of materials science and mechanical engineering and bring them to high school and college students. The goal of the podcast is to give students resources and insight into careers and the potential pathways of being a science major and to allow them to hear firsthand from industry professionals and professors about their work and research. The podcast will star professionals from all careers, backgrounds, and research interests in hopes of not only shedding light on science news and applications in the current world but introducing the world to talented, accomplished scientists and their stories.     In this conversation with Stanford materials science Professor Leora Dresselhaus-Marais, we discuss how she got into science, her research and experience with dark-field x-ray microscopy, and her inspiration and development of the new "Metalheads" course at Stanford.

    About Professor Dresselhaus-Marais: Leora Dresselhaus-Marais is an assistant materials science and engineering professor at Stanford University, with a courtesy appointment in the mechanical engineering department. She was a Lawrence fellow in the Lawrence Livermore National Labs Physics and Life Sciences Directorate. She got her PhD in physical chemistry at MIT, where she studied dark-field x-ray microscopy.
