Jeffrey opens up about the state of representation in the industry, sharing personal stories about navigating Hollywood as a queer Black creator. We talk about the pressure to conform, the myth that diversity is a risk, and how films like Sinners are proving just how wrong that is.

We also touch on the origins of Flight 180, the everyday objects that now give people anxiety, the brilliance of Tony Todd, and how Final Destination continues to evolve even without him directly involved.

  • 209: The Legend of Ochi (A24): Isaiah Saxon on Bold Fantasy & Handmade Worlds
    Apr 28 2025

    Hey horror fans!

This week we’re joined by Isaiah Saxon, director of A24’s The Legend of Ochi and co-founder of the visionary film and animation studio Encyclopedia Pictura.

We talk about Isaiah’s early creative roots, from drawing and stop-motion to building the kid-focused platform DIY.org, and how all of that shaped his unique approach to storytelling. Then we dive deep into the stunning handmade world of Carpathia—filled with puppets, animatronics, painted maps, 1930s lenses, and big heart.

Isaiah shares what it was like working with Willem Dafoe and Helena Zengel, how he blends mythology and music, and why he believes films should feel like moving paintings instead of hyper-reality.

We left this conversation genuinely inspired; Isaiah is someone bringing magic back to movies in a way we haven’t seen in a long time.

If you’re into bold storytelling, weird creatures, and fantasy flicks from the ’80s and ’90s, this one’s for you so...

  • 207: Author Clay McLeod Chapman on Losing Loved Ones to Extremism — and Writing Through It
    Apr 14 2025

Author Clay McLeod Chapman has done it all.. short stories, novels, a TON of comics, and screenplays for both indie and big-name films.

In this episode, we talk about his wild and winding journey through the horror genre.. from an early indie short that caught Elijah Wood’s eye, to co-writing Wendell & Wild with Henry Selick and Jordan Peele, and what a chaotic, drawn-out process making a movie can really be… even when you're working with legends.

Then we dive face first into Clay’s newest novel Wake Up and Open Your Eyes, which hit us on a deeply personal level. It’s a searing, surreal exploration of what it feels like to watch loved ones be consumed and "possessed" by extremist ideologies. We talk about the slow erosion of identity, the horror of misinformation, and how fiction can humanize without excusing.

It’s honest, emotional, and one of our favorite conversations yet so...

  • 205: Samara Weaving & Jimmy Warden on Borderline, Twisted Love Stories, and That Time They Were Followed Home
    Mar 31 2025

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream VI, The Babysitter) and her husband, writer-director Jimmy Warden (Cocaine Bear, The Babysitter: Killer Queen), sit down with us to talk all things Borderline—a darkly twisted thriller about fame, obsession, and dangerous attraction. Samara stars as Sofia, a former ‘90s pop star trapped in a psychological game with an unhinged fan (Ray Nicholson), and Jimmy pulls back the curtain on making his feature directorial debut alongside his wife.

We dive into the film’s wild creative process, Samara’s electric chemistry with Ray, and what it was like directing a film that blurs the line between love and madness. Plus, they share a hilarious (and slightly eerie) real-life story about being followed home—eerily fitting for Borderline’s themes.

Beyond the film, we talk The Babysitter, Cocaine Bear, and Samara’s rise as a modern scream queen. And yes, we ask about Ready or Not 2—how could we not?
