  • BREAKING STEREOTYPES: Non-Traditional Backgrounds Finding Success In Tech
    Jun 7 2022

The most common misconception in the Tech industry is stereotyping that only people with tech backgrounds or with tech education can be successful here. But our host Nancy Hur has two women both coming from diverse backgrounds and found great success in tech. The OC Tech Podcast breaks into the scene and kicks off with its very first episode with Julie Lemieux, VP of Product Experience at Sigma Computing, and Erica Simmons, Global Director for Technology Partnership at ServiceNow.

    Show Highlights:

    • Julie and Erica's Diverse Backgrounds
    • Breaking the stereotypes
    • Searching for new careers in tech
    • Recent challenges taken
    • Dealing with changes

    Quotes:

Erica: “I think what is really great is that when you come from those different backgrounds, you can kind of see different things and apply it differently and not be so sort of hooked into these stereotypes of what we should be or what we should do.”

Erica: “I think, the challenge that we all have, it's just like this internal struggle with yourself, that what you've done is not good enough, and you still need to go on and where you've grown out of it.”

Julie: “The business of design, especially in software and technologies, constantly, like it's constantly changing. It's constantly morphing.”

Julie: “The profile here has changed like three times over, like what we needed in the early days is different from what we needed in years three to five, and what we needed in years five to eight may be different.”
