  • Colie Brice 8/28/25 Sayreville, NJ (acoustic solo concert)
    Sep 3 2025
"Last night was a warm hearted sentimental stroll through the rock & roll journey I embarked upon as a troubled teenager in Sayreville (S.W.M.H.S Class of 86) through a lifetime of Gulliver's Travels type experiences in all facets of the music business over the past 40 years or so. I have yet to experience the material success some of my contemporaries have achieved, but I remain a sturdy rock & roll mule if not a pedigree stallion and I am grateful I still have my voice and enough guitar skill to still get gigs. Thank you to all who were present and all involved with the organization of a memorable summer evening in Le 'Ville - especially Moira Mc Cormack, Chris Cuneo, Sharon Pawelczyk Rodas, and the honorable Mayor Kennedy.."Colie Brice 8/29/25http://coliebrice.comSET LIST:"Under the Boardwalk" written by Kenny Young and Arthur Resnik "Drift Away" written by Mentor Ralph Williams "Oh Pretty Woman" written by Roy Orbison and Bill Dees "Dancing in the Streets" written by Marvin Gaye, William Stevenson, and Ivy Joe Hunter "Don't Stop Believing" written by Jonathan Cain. To that end, in 1997 Colie's solo debut New Age Blues was accepted in the 40th Annual Grammy Nomination Entry List in several categories including Top Instrumental for "17 G (Tribute to Jerry)" a tribute to the late Jerry Garcia. Since then, he has ardently and boldly explored and sculpted his own unique sonic character. Colie Brice is a multi-instrumentalist who has been recorded on over 50 albums, some on major labels with big budgets, others recorded DIY style on indie labels. Recording highlights beyond his solo work include three albums with Phantom's Opera which at one time featured Michael Romeo of Symphony X and later Karl Cochran of Ace Frehley and Joe Lynn Turner's band. He was also a featured guitarist on a dark, mystical live improvisational recording for Musso Records with Lunar Ensemble featuring Lunar Richey, Greg D, Dave Dreiwitz of Ween and Sim Cain of the Rollins Band. As a stage musician, Colie has performed at diverse venues ranging from the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, to the Viper Room in Hollywood, California and many points in between. He has shared the bill with an eclectic variety of notable acts such as Dick Dale, Layonne Holmes (Jon Bon Jovi solo band), Juggling Suns, Tony Levin, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Marshall Tucker, Skid Row, Jill Sobule, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes among others. As a media personality Colie Brice has interviewed Ray Charles, Cameron Crowe, Graham Nash, Nancy Wilson and many others. In 2014 the Abbe Museum in association with the Smithsonian Institute commissioned Colie Brice to produce and compose a sound sculpture to accompany their Circle of the Four Directions Exhibit honoring the culturing traditions of the Wabanaki nation. As a music industry professional Colie has held positions at PolyGram, Classic Records, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab and Asbury Media. For many years he was on the Preservation and Technology Committee of the National Academy Recording Arts and Sciences. As a teenager in Sayreville, NJ, Colie Brice was one of the teenagers who helped select the songs included on Bon Jovi's breakthrough album Slippery When Wet. Later as a young man working at PolyGram Records, Colie Brice conducted all the vault research to help compile Bon Jovi's Cross Roads Greatest Hits compilation. Colie has opened for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at the PNC Arts Center and was on the 40th annual GRAMMY nomination entry list in 15 categories. His old band Phantom's Opera had members of Bon Jovi in its ranks and released three albums in 36 countries. He is a world class singer and delivers smooth professionalism to each and every gig. Whether a client desires an animated entertainer or just elegant sounding wallpaper to enhance an overall event experience, Colie always adheres to and focuses on the preferences and curated direction of those hiring him. Colie performs over 200 cover songs and favors old boardwalk standards, classic rock, real country, a sprinkling of jazz and pop standards (think Sinatra), and of course plenty of Springsteen..Become a supporter of this podcast: https://...

  • An interview with Michael Scotto 8/19/25
    Aug 24 2025
An interview with Michael Scotto, a Jersey Shore based musical artist, educator, husband and father with deep and varied roots in the Asbury Park music scene. From his earliest musical origins to his vast contributions as a member of many seminal NJ bands and projects ( Lifesite, Virginia, Republic, Agency, Full Fathom, solo projects, etc. ) his tenure as the Studio Manager for Lakehouse Recording, to his thoughts on the role of technology in music and eclectic array of othjer subjects, this is an engaging conversation and exchange of thought and sentiment.

Apologies to the audience in advance for the exuberant and prolific contributions of my unexpected cohost Koda the Husky in this particular episode! Quite frankly I contemplated not publishing this interview with Michael Scotto due to the excessive audio distraction from my beloved canine companion, but Michael was good spirited and quite entertaining about it and charged through the experience with graceful intellect, rapacious wit, and the slick ease of a true professional.

  • Dick Dale Interview (6/18/14)
    Apr 18 2025
On June 3, 2004 I turned 36 years old. In my shallow thinking and ego based vanity, I bemoaned that I was now officially closer to 40 than 30. I had just come back from a firecall with Station 69 in Lavallette, NJ and was whining to one of my fellow firefigters about my existential aging crisis. He looked up from his beer can and basically told me to get myself to the Surf Club in Ortley Beach and watch a 67 year old man raise the roof and tear up the place on his lefty guitar. He may have also said something to the effect of "stop being a little bitch", but I digress. I heeded his advice and had my ass and my self pity handed to me as I watch this whirling dervish of surf culture show me a level of talent and fierce stamina no mere mortal should possess. He played for hours and then took time to meet everyone there. He really talked to people and then around 2 AM he loaded up the van and with backing musicians less than half his age, he drove into NYC for the next night's gig at BB King's club like a rock & roll Dad with the kids sleeping in the back. It was inspiring to say the least.

A few years later I snuck my little brother Brian in to see Dick at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park. We bonded as brothers that night fuled by the mystical musical alchemy Dick summoned to the stage that night.

In 2014 my band the New Age Blues Experience got to open for Dick at Rossport Farms. It was an amazing experience.

This archival podcast release illustrates an intense and broad conversation with the late great, legendary Dick Dale. The interview covers a vast expanse of Mr. Dale's thoughts, beliefs and feelings about a great many things. He expresses, heartfelt, candid reflections on his friendships and experiences with other artists and notable figures including Elvis Presley, Keith Moon, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Beach Boys, John Peel, Chris Isaak, the Ventures, Les Paul, Leo Fender, and Buddy Miles among others.

Other topics includes holistic health, the ancient cultural origins of "Miserlou", his deeply ingrained personal ethics and beliefs, his beloved wife Lana, and so much more.

There are an abundance of hard earned wisdom and life lessons lovingly shared here from a genuine American musical icon. Rest in peace Sir, it was an honor to talk to you and open for you. - Colie Brice 4/18/25
