OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND? - Pauline Habraken
The EU promotes itself as a front-runner for human rights. However, when it concerns migration policies, we are exposed to the dark sides of the EU.
The inhumane situations at the borders closest to us, such as Poland, Greece, or Italy, are drawing the most attention, but in this episode, we will literally go one step further, all the way to the deserts of Niger.
Pauline Habraken wrote her Master's Thesis about the emergency trust fund in Niger and the lack of transparency within the European union about it.
Through her research, we will learn that even development money from the EU (intended to develop the country) is actually used to prevent migration, and by doing so destroying economies and undermining human rights.
It will leave us with the question, OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND?
