Originally from the UK, Simon Ashford began his animation journey working in feature animation in London for industry legend Richard Williams on his epic film ‘The Thief and the Cobbler’. Simon then went on to contribute to projects like Steven Spielberg’s ‘Balto’, ‘The Tales of Beatrix Potter’ and ‘The Silver Brumby’ for Media World & Animation Works in Melbourne.

    #005 - Dr Darren C Fisher is a Lecturer/Convenor in the Animation Department of Swinburne University in Melbourne. Darren is also a comic-book artist and author. On top of having to adjust to teaching online, Darren and his wife recently went through a tough time when they learned that halfway through the pandemic they were being evicted from their rental house! To deal and document the ordeal Darren drew these challenging times into an Autobiographical comic which was recently published on the ABC website.
    *Spoilers* Luckily for Darren, his wife and their cat, the story ends well and with a silver lining!

The award-winning animated documentary is making waves on the national and international stage and has been officially selected for the Academy Award qualifying St Kilda Film Festival. We chat with director Matt Blyth and Animator/Illustrator Rob Corless to learn about this unique film and how they managed to pull it off despite a modest budget and while working remotely.
