    Isaiah 45:9 (ESV) – “Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?” In today’s Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we look at a recurring phrase in the book of Isaiah: “what sorrow.” Again and again, God warns His people of the sorrow that comes from pride, rebellion, compromise, and misplaced trust. From hoarding possessions to calling evil good, from hiding sin to arguing with our Creator, these choices only lead to sadness and destruction. For us today, these Scriptures remind us that the way to a joyful and blessed life is not in following sin or the world’s definitions, but in trusting and obeying the Lord.     Isaiah 42:4 (NLT) – “He will never falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth.” Ephesians 4:11–16 (NLT) – “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers…” In today’s Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we are reminded that Jesus never gets discouraged—and when we spend time with Him, His strength lifts our hearts. Paul also shows us how God uses the five-fold ministry—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—to equip the church. Their role is to bring us to maturity and prepare us for works of service, which is why the enemy works so hard to separate believers from their spiritual leaders and from the house of God. The fruit of maturity is clear: we no longer get tossed around by strange teachings, we are not easily influenced by lies that sound like truth, and we grow daily in Christlikeness by speaking the truth in love.     Isaiah 40:1–2 (NLT) – “Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone and her sins are pardoned. Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over for all her sins.” In today’s Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall from Cathedral of Praise, we are reminded that seasons of sin are not good days—they are sad days. But when repentance comes, the message of God is not judgment or condemnation, but comfort and tenderness. God instructs us to speak with compassion to the repentant: “Comfort them, speak tenderly to them.” The sad days are over, forgiveness has come, and restoration has begun. Just as Paul encouraged the Corinthian church to welcome back the repentant sinner, we too must learn to encourage, restore, and remind others that God rebuilds what sin has destroyed. When people are post-repentance, our role is not to crucify them—Christ has already been crucified.     Isaiah 39:2 (NLT) – “Hezekiah was delighted with the Babylonian envoys and showed them everything in his treasure-houses—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the aromatic oils. He also took them to see his armory and showed them everything in his royal treasuries. There was nothing in his palace or kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.” In today’s Daily Devotions with Pastor David Sumrall, we learn the dangers of pride and “showing off.” What starts as an innocent desire to be noticed—like a child saying, “Look at me!”—can turn destructive when motivated by pride instead of love. King Hezekiah, flattered by Babylon’s attention, revealed all his treasures. But his pride stirred up envy and greed, leading to devastating consequences for his nation. The lesson is clear: when powerful or influential people take notice, it’s not always a good thing. Instead of flaunting what we have, Scripture reminds us to walk in humility.
