  • I Felt a Funeral in my Brain
    Nov 20 2025

I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,

And Mourners to and fro Kept treading – treading – till it seemed

That Sense was breaking through –

And when they all were seated,

    A Service, like a Drum –

Kept beating – beating – till I thought

My mind was going numb –

And then I heard them lift a Box

    And creak across my Soul

With those same Boots of Lead, again,

Then Space – began to toll,

As all the Heavens were a Bell,

    And Being, but an Ear,

And I, and Silence, some strange Race,

    Wrecked, solitary, here –

And then a Plank in Reason, broke,

And I dropped down, and down –

And hit a World, at every plunge,

And Finished knowing – then –

“When there is no peace in Heaven
there is no peace in the universe,
when there is no peace in the universe
there is no peace in the cosmos,
when there is no peace in the cosmos
there is no peace in the sky,
and when there is no peace in the sky
there is no peace on Earth.

When there is no peace in your soul
there is no peace in your heart,
when there is no peace in your heart
there is no peace in your mind,
when there is no peace in your mind
there is no peace in your life,
and when there is no peace in your life
there is no peace in your world.

When there is peace in Heaven
there is peace in the universe,
when there is peace in the universe
there is peace in the cosmos,
when there is peace in the cosmos
there is peace in the sky,
and when there is peace in the sky
    there is peace on Earth.

When there is peace in your soul
there is peace in your heart,
when there is peace in your heart
there is peace in your mind,
when there is peace in your mind

    Nov 18 2025

    A Wish for Peace

    I wish for you,
    I wish for me,
I wish for all the world to live in harmony.
When I look into the sky at night and see the stars above,
I wish for peace, I wish for love.

    I wish for you
    …I wish for you
    I wish for me
    …I wish for me

I wish for all the world to live in harmony.
When I look into the sky at night and see the stars above,
    I wish for peace,
    …I wish for peace

    I wish for love.

I wish for hope, I wish for joy,
I wish for all these things for every girl and boy,
That where ever in the world they are,
they’ll see the stars above and wish for peace,
    And wish for love.

    Ah…

When I look into the sky at night and see the stars above,
    I wish for peace
    …I wish for peace
    I wish for love.

  • A Psalm of Life By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

A Psalm of Life By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,

Life is but an empty dream!

For the soul is dead that slumbers,

And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!

    And the grave is not its goal;

Dust thou art, to dust returnest,

Was not spoken of the soul.

    Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,

    Is our destined end or way;

But to act, that each to-morrow

    Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,

And our hearts, though stout and brave,

Still, like muffled drums, are beating

    Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,

    In the bivouac of Life,

Be not like dumb, driven cattle!

Be a hero in the strife!

    Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!

Let the dead Past bury its dead!

Act,— act in the living Present!

    Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

    And, departing, leave behind us

    Footprints on the sands of time;

    Footprints, that perhaps another,

    Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,

    A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,

    Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,

    With a heart for any fate;

    Still achieving, still pursuing,

Learn to labor and to wait.

  • Making of Peace Poem by Denise Levertov
    Nov 10 2025

    Making Peace by Denise Levertov

A voice from the dark called out,
    “The poets must give us
imagination of peace, to oust the intense, familiar
imagination of disaster. Peace, not only
    the absence of war.”

    But peace, like a poem,
is not there ahead of itself,
can’t be imagined before it is made,
    can’t be known except
in the words of its making,
    grammar of justice,
    syntax of mutual aid.

    A feeling towards it,
dimly sensing a rhythm, is all we have
until we begin to utter its metaphors,
    learning them as we speak.

A line of peace might appear
if we restructured the sentence our lives are making,
revoked its reaffirmation of profit and power,
    questioned our needs, allowed
    long pauses. . . .

A cadence of peace might balance its weight
on that different fulcrum; peace, a presence,
an energy field more intense than war,
    might pulse then,
stanza by stanza into the world,
    each act of living
one of its words, each word
    a vibration of light—facets
    of the forming crystal.

  • November By Emily Dickinson

    November by Emily Dickinson 🎉

    Besides the autumn poets sing,

    A few prosaic days

A little this side of the snow

And that side of the haze.

    A few incisive mornings,

    A few ascetic eyes, —

    Gone Mr. Bryant's golden-rod,

    And Mr. Thomson's sheaves.

Still is the bustle in the brook,

    Sealed are the spicy valves;

    Mesmeric fingers softly touch

    The eyes of many elves.

    Perhaps a squirrel may remain,

    My sentiments to share.

Grant me, O Lord, a sunny mind,

    Thy windy will to bear!

    I WISH YOU PEACE

I wish you peace when the cold winds blow
    Warmed by the fire's glow
I wish you comfort in the, the lonely time
Arms to hold you when you ache inside

I wish you hope when things are going bad
Kind words when times are sad
I wish you shelter from the, the raging wind
Cooling waters at the fever's end

I wish you peace when times are hard
A light to guide you through the dark
And when storms are high, and your, your dreams are low
I wish you the strength to let love grow
Oh, I wish you the strength to let love flow

Wish you peace when times are hard
A light to guide you through the dark
And when storms are high and your, your dreams are low

Wish you the strength to let love grow, ah, ah, ah
I wish you the strength to let love flow, ah, ah, ah

I wish you the strength to let love glow, ah, ah, ah
I wish you the strength to let love glow
