Public Officials Say Martin Luther King's Message Still Resonates

Some Members of Congress have been out greeting constituents, only days after an Arizona representative was shot and critically wounded at a similar outreach event.

One such recent venue was a holiday parade in Los Angeles, celebrating the legacy of the nation's most revered civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Junior.

King himself was the victim of an assassin -- gunned down more than forty years ago. And as VOA's Mike O'Sullivan reports, a congresswoman and other public officials at the parade reflected on the slain civil rights leader's message in the wake of the Arizona shootings.

This episode of Historic California News was originally broadcast on Voice of America on January 18, 2011, and was produced and reported by West Coast Bureau Chief, Mike O'Sullivan in Los Angeles. This content is provided for historic and educational purposes, and is not monetized in any way.
