Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Colorado Weather Podcast — it's Wednesday, February 25th. Step outside right now and you're sitting at 42 degrees under a thick blanket of gray. But hold on.. Because we're about to see one of those classic Colorado temperature swings. By 2 P.M., we're hitting 69 degrees. Here's how it plays out. Temperatures bottom out around 42 degrees at 6 A.M. on the Front Range. Then the climb starts. We reach 69 degrees by 2 P.M. Winds shift from south-southwest to west-southwest around 5 A.M. Gusts hit 25 miles an hour by 2 P.M. Then rain moves in from 5 P.M. to 1 A.M. tonight. Down on the Southern Front Range, same story. High of 69 degrees around 2 P.M. Then temperatures crash to 36 degrees by 4 A.M. A slight chance of rain around 2 A.M. Winds gust to 25 miles an hour around 3 P.M. Out on the Western Slope, conditions stay bone dry through the next 24 hours. High of 64 degrees around 4 P.M. Lows drop to 37 degrees by 3 A.M. Winds shift from east-northeast to east-southeast around 8 A.M. Gusts reach 15 miles an hour around 3 P.M. Now the critical stuff. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. today for Elbert and Douglas Counties. Gusty winds and low humidity mean any spark could turn into a wildfire. Don't burn anything outdoors. Up in the mountains, a Winter Storm Warning continues until 9 P.M. for the Elkhead and Park Mountains. Expect 8 to 14 inches of snow with gusts to 60 miles an hour. That's dangerous driving territory. Your week ahead? Thursday brings sun and highs near 62 degrees. Friday and Saturday warm back into the upper 60s. By Sunday and Monday, rain chances return. We could even see some snow mixing in by Monday. Spring equinox is just three weeks away. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight today. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
