À propos de cet audio
This episode was originally released on 17th June 2024.
For this very special Juneteenth episode, Harleigh and Malaika were joined by James Beard Award winning activist, social commentator and HBCU alumni KJ Kearney. KJ breaks down the difference between THE cookout and A cookout, explains the variations in soul food across America and sets the record straight on if there raisins in the potato salad.
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It marks the day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas, over two years after it was issued.
