  • PREVIEW: San Diego FC is a breath of fresh air
    Nov 18 2025

Darren Smith and John Gennaro kick off today's podcast by talking about some technical difficulties and jokingly being called out by a "rival" Padres podcast before getting into San Diego FC, who announced earlier today that they were exercising the permanent option on Luca Bombino's loan from LAFC.

The guys play some audio from SDFC Sporting Director Tyler Heaps, who spoke openly and honestly about Luca Bombino's present and future with Darren Smith, which felt very different from the normal communications from a team to the media.

The podcast closes with some San Diego Padres talk, starting with Shohei Ohtani no longer tipping his cap to the Padres dugout and barreling right into all of the questions surrounding a sale of the Padres and what a prospective buyer might be getting.

  • A very late Weekend Recap
    Nov 18 2025

Darren Smith and John Gennaro had conflicting schedules on Monday, so the usual early Monday weekend recap got moved to late afternoon. As such, the guys are a little loop as they discuss the very strange NFL season, SDSU fans getting angry after a win over Boise State, San Diego FC preparing for a huge playoff game on Monday, the Padres re-signing LHP Kyle Hart, and a bunch more.

  • PREVIEW: Weekend Preview: Rain!
    Nov 14 2025

Darren Smith and John Gennaro preview the weekend ahead, starting with an explanation of what weep holes are and how to clean them ahead of this weekend's deluge of rain that is expected to soak San Diego county. We get a full report from the Section 1904 Weather Desk so that we know how to prepare.

Then, on the two-year anniversary of Peter Seidler's passing, the guys talk about Sheel Seidler mentioning Darren on her Instagram and wonder how her grief over losing her husband must be entangled with a forthcoming sale of the San Diego Padres.

They also spend quite a bit of time (not on purpose) discussing the article in the local paper that welcomes the return of maybe the worst "owner" in the history of the Padres.

From there, they discuss why Major League Soccer is switching the time of year in which their regular season will be played and the changes made to MLS Season Pass that will make it easier for everyone to watch San Diego FC going forward.

The guys also talk about San Diego State's football team, which still seems like a bit of a mystery box and probably will remain so even after what should be a very wet game at Snapdragon Stadium against the Boise State Broncos on Saturday night, before throwing out a couple of recommendations in this week's installment of Try This!

    Nov 13 2025

News broke this morning that the Seidler family is looking for investors to take ownership of the San Diego Padres, marking the end of the Peter Seidler era for the team.

Darren Smith and John Gennaro jumped on YouTube and reacted live to the news, being sad about Peter Seidler's legacy, wondering how this affects A.J. Preller's potential extension with the team and his offseason moves, and even tossing around a couple of names of potential buyers.

  • PREVIEW: "A.J.'s decision" to hire Craig Stammen as Padres manager
    Nov 11 2025

John's back from his trip to New Orleans and, after the guys talk a bit about what makes New Orleans so special and John talks about the World War II Museum, the guys bounce around to some of the reactions to the San Diego Padres hiring Craig Stammen as their new manager and yesterday's press conference introducing him to the assembled media.

The guys play sound from Padres CEO Erik Greupner and Padres legend Trevor Hoffman, and discuss Stammen calling Nick Hundley to apologize for a strange interview process, as they discuss what the hire means for the short-term and long-term future of the organization.

  • Weekend Recap: Craig Stammen introduced & SDFC Advances
    Nov 10 2025

It’s Monday! That means it’s the Weekend Recap episode, which is always unlocked for everyone whether you’re a paid subscriber or just checking out Section 1904 for the first time.

With John Gennaro enjoying beignets and Hurricanes on Bourbon Street, Darren Smith sucked down a few double espressos and started the podcast talking about Craig Stammen’s introductory press conference earlier in the day on Monday. What were the key takeaways, what was appreciated and what questions we left unanswered from Stammen’s first appearance as Padres manager. Also, what’s the deal with AJ Preller’s contract and why wasn’t an announcement made today. Hear a portion of Stammen’s press conference and the reaction to the timeline of his candidacy from interviewer to interviewee.

Then, with vocal cords still a bit raw – but not as raw as Gus Johnson's – the podcast focused on San Diego Football Club’s near-perfect win against Portland Timbers, clinching a spot in the MLS Cup Western Conference semifinals. After a crushing defeat last weekend, how was it that the Chrome and Azul dominated Timbers in the series finale and what to make of Hirving Lozano’s role in the remaining matches.
