À propos de cet audio
Shelley Segal is a singer/songwriter who is currently based in the United States.
In this episode, Shelley shares her heartfelt story of self-discovery and musical evolution. Raised in an Orthodox Jewish community, and falling for music while performing with her father's wedding band, Shelley's personal and creative life took a turn as she delved into science. Confronting what she found as contradictions within her religion, and taking issue with things such as gender segregation, she began questioning everything. Fuelled by a desire to rediscover herself, she began crafting powerful, lyrically-driven songs about atheism and personal growth.
Her 2011 album, ‘An Atheist Album’, found an audience amongst other disenfranchised people, particularly in the US.
Venturing from Australia to America, Shelley found her voice resonating with individuals who shared her journey. From intimate gatherings to massive crowds of 30,000 alongside names like Richard Dawkins and Tim Minchin, her music struck chords across diverse communities.
Eventually moving to Los Angeles in 2016, she continued to expand her musical repertoire and industry footprint, establishing production and publishing companies while delving into film & tv licensing. Now she works with talented artists across genres, all over the world, continuing to inspire.
Shelley’s journey is a testament to defiance, growth, and the unifying powers of music.
