À propos de cet audio
Season 7 begins with one of the most powerful and emotional stories we’ve ever shared on the SK8LIKEYOU Podcast.
Our guest, Lauren Smyth, has been a lifelong skater whose love for roller skating has always been part of who she is. But six years ago, everything changed when she was diagnosed with late stage 3 ovarian cancer and since the diagnosis has progressed to stage 4. Since that day, Lauren has been fighting for her life with strength, courage, and an unshakable spirit that continues to inspire everyone who knows her.
As devastating as this diagnosis was, what followed became something truly remarkable. During her fight, Lauren reconnected with her first love, Jimmy Bee — the same person she met years ago at the rink as a kid. What began as a childhood romance grew into something even deeper as adults. After living separate lives and building families of their own, fate brought them back together, reminding us that sometimes love really does come full circle.
This episode is about more than just skating. It’s about love, resilience, and the way the rink can bring people together even in the hardest moments of life. Lauren’s journey is heartbreaking and inspiring all at once, and her courage represents the best of what our community stands for — strength, unity, and hope on eight wheels.
There is also a way you can help. At this year’s Philly Fall Sk8 Bash, skaters from all over are coming together to support Lauren and her fight. To learn more about how you can get involved or donate, visit the Philly Fall Sk8 Bash Facebook page here:
