THE CHAIR (S1/Ep69) — BPS RED FLAGS

    Hello Beautiful People,

    I’m Your Host Dreme.

I’m a Black woman, an educator turned tech entrepreneur but still an educator. Building a platform called THE CHAIR is a Black and Brown centered tech platform dedicated to supporting people on their hair journey. You can design hairboards, connect to hair stylists, and share hair care tips all in one space for a more joyous and streamlined experience. I built THE CHAIR Podcast to highlight hair journeys. A reminder to keep creating magic. As people sit in THE CHAIR you will get more than just hair stories. You will be immersed into experiences surrounding education, entrepreneurship, and identity. I hope you enjoy listening to my stories and the stories of my guests as we sit in THE CHAIR.

THE CHAIR (S1/Ep69) — BPS RED FLAGS

In this episode, I share a story about a short stint working directly in a Boston Public High School in partnership with a Community College. I highlight the significant moments that are referenced as flags, signals, and challenges when it comes to working in a school that does not center students or hold them accountable with a created culture of low expectations. Come learn from my experience to better your craft and make change in your educational spaces. Enjoy!

I had the honor and the pleasure of running into one of my old students at the ice cream parlor. A student that runs through my mind regularly. He told me what I did for him as his teacher. It’s a moment that reminds me why I teach and this is the story. Enjoy!

I am a 3 degree holder. I have my BA from Lake Forest College. I have my M.Ed from UCLA and I have my MBA from Babson College. I am also an educator who has sat through many variations of graduations over the years and there is a comfort to the speeches that are meant to inspire and connect students as they move on to the next stage of their life. I wrote a graduation speech that I wish I would have heard when I sat in those same chairs. Enjoy!

THE CHAIR (S1/Ep64) — I Know What it is to Think I'm Stupid

Lisa and I met at a school we both worked at. She worked on the first floor and I on the third. Our first conversation was in the teacher break room of the third floor and that is where our friendship began. I have learned so much and continue to learn from her and I am excited to share space with Lisa as she sits in THE CHAIR. Enjoy!

    Her Bio:

    Lisa Graustein (she/her) M.Ed

Lisa is a Queer social justice teacher, facilitator, and artist. After 20 years as a middle and high school teacher and administrator, Lisa now trains teachers and works with non-profit leaders on how to interrupt and transform systemic oppression in schools and workplaces. She also works within her Quaker faith community across the US and Canada to end white supremacy and build support for reparations.
