  • Episode 36 - Alison Firth: Empty of Empathy
    Nov 16 2025

Alice Grant lived at Aidan House, a care home in Gateshead in Northeastern England. Due to her dementia and past strokes, she was dependent on the nursing staff for all her needs and could become frustrated with her predicament. Enter Alison Firth, a nurse with 16 years’ experience and a less than stellar job history. Alison didn’t like Alice; she required a lot of care and, frankly, Alison couldn’t be bothered, so she did the unthinkable: She gave Alice an overdose of Heminevrin and was confident that no one would suspect her. She was wrong. Unlike Alison, her colleagues actually cared about the patients, and they called the police.

  • Episode 35 - Vickie Dawn Jackson: Nursing a Grudge
    Nov 9 2025

For almost twenty years, Vickie Dawn Jackson had been caring for the residents in the two-stoplight town of Nocona, Texas. But on December 11, 2000, 34-year-old Nurse Vickie filled a syringe with mivacurium chloride and picked the first of the many patients she would go on to kill. In a little over two months, Vickie administered fatal injections to at least 10 patients. Her classic small-town motive? Revenge. Vickie had had enough of difficult patients and their self-absorbed families, and she was hell-bent on righting any perceived wrong made against her or her family. Sources:

  • Episode 34 - Megan Jean Haines: When It’s Never Your Fault
    Nov 2 2025

Megan Jean Haines moved to Australia from her native South Africa searching for a better life, but instead of working hard to achieve that life, her bad attitude, unwillingness to do the required work, and contempt for her patients resulted in numerous misconduct charges and a license suspension. After her license was reinstated, her conduct didn’t change. When she was told that several patients had complained about herbehavior, she made the decision to use what she thought of as the “perfect weapon” and inject the patients with insulin.

  • Episode 33 - Ronald O'Bryan & Gerald Turner: The Real Monsters of Halloween
    Oct 26 2025
In our Halloween Special, we’re covering two chilling cases:The community of Pasadena, Texas was shocked when news of 8-year-old Timothy O’Bryan’s death broke late on the evening of October 31, 1974. Rumors ran rampant that a madman was poisoning children. What evil lurked behind closed doors? Shock turned to disbelief when the person arrested wasn’t a stranger, but someone close to Timothy. When 9-year-old Lisa Ann French’s best friend was grounded at the last minute, Lisa was left trick-or-treating on her own on October 31, 1973. After her curfew came and went, the search for the missing girl ended days later with the discovery of her naked body, whereas the fight to keep the man responsible off the streets spanned decades.Sources: https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1298&dat=19840326&id=9PpNAAAAIBAJ&pg=5217,1118370https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=861&dat=19750527&id=NYkqAAAAIBAJ&pg=5037,4544604https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1346&dat=19741112&id=9I0sAAAAIBAJ&pg=4213,3795834https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1734&dat=19750605&id=gOkbAAAAIBAJ&pg=2762,3318693https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1876&dat=19821024&id=kjwsAAAAIBAJ&pg=6615,5115736https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=861&dat=19750503&id=J4kqAAAAIBAJ&pg=2875,543835https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1697&dat=19821022&id=nzAqAAAAIBAJ&pg=6492,4597510https://abc13.com/post/1974-candyman-turned-halloween-terrifying-pasadena-texas/375883/https://www.vice.com/en/article/halloween-killer-ronald-clark-o-bryan-candy-man/https://www.hcdistrictclerk.com/Common/HistoricalDocument/pdf/COTM_Oct_2021.pdfhttps://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=336&dat=19840331&id=wi5TAAAAIBAJ&pg=3849,6273794https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=861&dat=19840328&id=XfQnAAAAIBAJ&pg=6833,7469626https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1356&dat=19821030&id=IZdPAAAAIBAJ&pg=7130,7703589https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1320&dat=19840401&id=n8ERAAAAIBAJ&pg=6750,28743https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/article/Candy-Man-s-legacy-still-haunting-today-9774087.phphttps://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Man-Who-Killed-Halloween-still-haunts-holiday-1971811.phphttps://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1298&dat=19991031&id=ui4zAAAAIBAJ&pg=6681,8305899https://people.com/lisa-french-halloween-murder-11697665 https://allthatsinteresting.com/halloween-murders/7https://wsww.casemine.com/judgement/us/591494d9add7b049345c40a7https://www.wisn.com/article/murder-of-girl-45-years-ago-changes-trick-or-treat-in-wisconsin/6318115 https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2017/12/06/lisa-ann-frenchs-family-fights-release-wisconsins-infamous-halloween-killer/821216001/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2017/12/06/timeline-sentence-release-halloween-killer-gerald-turner/918882001/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/crime/2022/02/23/halloween-killer-gerald-turner-wont-released-fond-du-lac-county-judge-rules/6912835001/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2019/01/15/halloween-killer-gerald-turner-tried-fond-du-lac/2559637002/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/picture-gallery/news/2017/12/06/photos-four-decades-later-effects-of-lisa-ann-frenchs-murder-remain/108190024/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2018/10/30/halloween-killer-case-stalled-appeals-court/1711679002/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2018/01/26/attorney-general-keep-halloween-killer-gerald-turner-locked-up-wisconsin/1066822001/ https://www.fdlreporter.com/story/news/2018/02/08/fond-du-lacs-halloween-killer-gerald-turner-moved-juneau-county/319515002/ https://fox11online.com/news/local/judge-denies-halloween-killers-bid-for-new-hearing-in-child-sexual-predator-case-gerald-turner-fond-du-lac-taycheedah-trick-or-treating-lisa-ann-french-assault-sand-ridge-treatment-center-mauston-wisconsin https://radiomilwaukee.org/stories/uniquely-milwaukee/2022-05-31/how-wisconsin-became-the-first-state-to-outlaw-discrimination-against-lgbtq-people

    Oct 19 2025
In the final part of our series on Amelia Dyer, we’ll see how the infamous baby farmer changed her business practices bytaking in both unwanted babies and older children, killing them via strangulation, and disposing of their bodies herself. Using a variety of aliases, Amelia may have killed hundreds of young victims. Although it was the discovery of Helena Fry’s body in 1896 that led to the police investigation that would finally bring Amelia to justice and end her decades-long career, it was the murders of Doris Marmon and Harry Simmons that sent her to the gallows.Sources: https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/police-forces/thames-valley-police/areas/au/about-us/thames-valley-police-museum/the-baby-farmer/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGkqFun-xxo&t=53s https://abortionrights.org.uk/history-of-abortion-law-in-the-uk/ https://join-us.nspcc.org.uk/volunteers/our-story/#:~:text=Our%20history,by%20the%20Reverend%20Benjamin%20Waugh. https://berkshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/best-places-to-live/berkshire/caversham/ https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-berkshire-39330793https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england-berkshire-39308448 https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-berkshire-39186837 https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/amelia-dyer-the-woman-who-murdered-300-babies-8507570.htmlhttps://www.cheminst.ca/magazine/article/opium-and-laudanum-historys-wonder-drugs/ https://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/featuredarticles/discover-your-ancestors/periodical/39/the-forgotten-carers-5396/https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/record/t18960518-451 https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/amelia-dyer https://core.ac.uk/download/492499909.pdf https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/sep/19/victorian-women-forced-to-give-up-their-babies-new-exhibitionhttps://glastonbury.nub.news/news/local-news/from-asylum-to-atrocity-amelia-dyers-somerset-connection-to-one-of-britains-darkest-crimes-263737 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSsgjz45I0E https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/146642403305400803?download=true https://thetcj.org/child-care-history-policy/%E2%80%98the-hope-is-in-children-the-times-671908 https://livingwithdying.leeds.ac.uk/2022/11/01/unloved-and-undisciplined-nineteenth-century-baby-farming-and-the-demonisation-of-working-class-mothers-across-the-ages/ https://www.londonmuseum.org.uk/collections/v/object-718109/confession-execution-of-m-waters-the-baby-farmer-at-horsemonger-lane-gaol-on-tuesday-october-11th/ https://academic.oup.com/jvc/article/18/1/17/4102742 https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pelisse https://guthrie-ghani.co.uk/blogs/blog/laurens-guide-to-interfacing-and-tapes-for-dressmaking?srsltid=AfmBOoplfYOfCJBU7HfWyu6gdJm2yw8_dYErjEBAbZkjtFDuV5_EXxiw https://readingoldcemetery.uk/doris-marmon/ https://readingoldcemetery.uk/harry-simmons/ http://collections.readingmuseum.org.uk/index.asp?page=record&mwsquery=%20%7Bcollection%7D=%7Bhistory%7D&filename=REDMG&hitsStart=4323 https://www.ebsco.com/research-starters/history/women-victorian-era https://www.nts.org.uk/stories/morphinomania-in-the-19th-century https://farewells.co.uk/unpurchased-pauper-graves/

  • Episode 31 - Amelia Dyer Part One: The Barbaric, Booming Baby-Farming Business
    Oct 12 2025
With the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834 having essentially lifted any financial obligation from the father, single mothers in Victorian England often turned to baby farmers. These agents would put their babies up for fostering or adoption for a fee. While some truly helped the children that came into their care, others realized that murder was the best way to maximize their profits. One such baby farmer was a nurse named Amelia Dyer. In part one, we’ll see how despite her short stints in prison and the workhouse, with her many moves and stays in the asylum, time and time again, Amelia was able to return to the business of baby farming. Oct 5 2025

Nurse Kristen Gilbert was smart. After all, she graduated high school at 16. Kristen also liked control and being the center of attention. She liked the praise she received from co-workers. She really was the best nurse, just ask her. When Kristen started an affair with a co-worker, telling him how good she was at her job wasn’t enough, she needed to show him. This need would lead to at least four deaths, several attemptedmurders, and possibly, even more undetected crimes.

    Sep 21 2025

We’re back with part two of our theme on female killer nurses with Jeanine Hannah, a.k.a. Jeannie Miata and Julie Kocian. With her many names, Jeanine managed to continue caring for elderly patients in spite of a restriction and a prior conviction of theft in the first degree. However, stealing from patients was far from her worst crime. After she absconded from Oregon, Jeanine faced charges of theft once more in Texas. This time, while she was awaiting a court appearance, Jeanine was arrested and indicted in October 2004 for murdering the patient she had stolen from, Margaret Bradley, two and a half years earlier.
