First up, we're thrilled to announce that our academy is celebrating over 60 years of excellence in cosmetology education. Since our founding in 1961, we've been dedicated to preparing students for successful careers in the beauty industry. Our programs in Cosmetology and Nail Technology continue to evolve, offering flexible schedules and comprehensive training to meet the needs of our diverse student body. In other news, the Arizona beauty industry is experiencing significant growth. The state is projected to generate $142.7 million in revenue this year in the cosmetic and beauty products manufacturing sector. This flourishing industry offers promising opportunities for our graduates as they step into the professional world. However, it's important to stay informed about legislative developments that may impact our profession. Earlier this year, House Bill 2031 was introduced, proposing the dissolution of the Arizona Barbering and Cosmetology Board. This bill poses a significant risk to public health, consumer protection, and Arizona’s economy by dismantling a system that ensures safety and regulatory oversight in the beauty industry. The Arizona Barbering and Cosmetology Board plays a crucial role in regulating the state's billion-dollar salon and spa industry. It is a self-sustaining entity, funded entirely by licensing fees, examination fees, and penalties, without requiring taxpayer dollars. In fiscal year 2024, the Board contributed $12.1 million to Arizona’s General Fund, further reinforcing its economic value. We encourage all students and professionals to stay engaged and voice their opinions on this matter. Looking ahead, the Tucson Mall is hosting a back-to-school event today, July 28, from 1 to 3 pm in the Center Court. The event will provide free haircuts, bike helmets, booster seats, and more, on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a great opportunity for our students to connect with the community and support local families as they prepare for the new school year. That's all for this week's updates.
