    Episode Title: The Hunger Games

You are listening to The Fan and the Foe podcast with your host(s) Gabbi and Louisa.

In this episode of The Fan and The Foe, the Podcast, we discuss: The Hunger Games! Just a pre-show warning, I’ve been battling a cold the past few days, and am still getting my voice back.

Gabbi: That's quite the commitment right there

    Louisa: Yuppp

    Segment 1: Background info

Louisa: So, these last few episodes, I have had some idea as to what we were talking about, but for this episode, I have no clue about anything. If this is even correct, I know Katniss Evergreen exists and that's it, but for all I know, that's the wrong show…

Gabbi: Go off and explain what the Hunger Games are. After another American Civil War, the new America is separated into 12 districts, all of which provide for the lavish lives of the capital. District life is awful.. Not enough food, bad housing, you basically work until you die. To make everyone's life worse, they force each district to send 2 of its children to the capital every year to fight to the death. They claim it's punishment for the district's rebellion, but the rebellion was almost 75 years ago at the start of the books.

    Span 3 years

    Basic character rundown

    • Katniss Everdeen
    • Peeta Mellark
    • Gale Hawthorne
    • President Snow (spin-off book)
    • Haymitch Abernathy (another spin-off)

    District breakdown

    • 12- mining
    • 11- agriculture
    • 1- luxury goods
    • 6- lumber

There are 5 movies currently out and 5 books, with another movie coming out next November.

Explain the Hunger Games and what they force people to do

Some fans also debate what district they are in, or disgracefully, if they are capital.. So I think it would be fun to take another quiz and figure out what district we are in

What district are you in? Quiz

    Segment 2: Banter

    Discuss what we got.

Louisa: So basically what I'm hearing is there is a huge fandom surrounding the diabolical capture and murder of exploited children under capitalism and in this whole system I would be in ____ district

Gabbi: Yes, you would be! But to the fans, it's more than that; it is because of how immensely meaningful it is. Suzanne Collins, the writer of the books, makes sure that her books are extremely relevant to the political society in which we live. Her work is very well thought out.

Louisa: So, are we capturing and killing children just for a game in our society?

Gabbi: Well, maybe they don’t exactly mirror the political and social climate, but the fears they involve are very similar.

Louisa: That's fair. There is definitely a reflection of the themes of the books and today's political climate. When is her next book coming out? That should be a good one lol.

Gabbi: The Hunger Games fandom is also a close-knit community. When Sunrise on the Reaping came out last year, I forced my parents to take me to Barnes and Noble for a midnight release, where a bunch of other Hunger Games fans played games and had a whole bunch of fun for a night!

    Segment 3: Crazy Fan Mail

Louisa: Now, it's time for everyone's favorite section: Crazy Fan Mail/ Fan Encounters!

    Gabi- WOOOOO!!!!

Louisa: So this one was actually harder to find, which is weird because I would think the opposite based on what...

  • Stranger Things & Stranger Fans

Show Name: The Fan & the Foe

    Episode Title: Stranger Things

Welcome back! You are listening to The Fan and the Foe podcast with your host(s) Gabbi and Louisa.

In this episode of The Fan and the Foe, we are discussing all things Stranger Things!!!

Segment 1: Introduction & background to Stranger Things DND background

Stranger Things is a hit Netflix series produced by the Duffer Brothers. Set in Hawkins, Indiana, circa 1983 focuses on the seemingly mundane lives of 4 suburban boys- until one of them goes missing. At the same time, Eleven, a bald little girl with superpowers, comes in. Their lives flip upside down…get it… upside down like the second evil dimension that houses evil things [expand on evil things, demogorgons, demodogs, Vecna, the mindflayer, and the upside down].

The show also has a heavy influence of the supernatural, soviet missions and spies, and government experiments on children. Despite the underlying darkness of the show, it is now extremely interesting to watch.

Louisa: Sure, like a car fire

[Start taking about eleven and the other government experiments she considers her brothers and sisters] https://strangerthings.fandom.com/wiki/Stranger_Things

    • Elevens' superpowers, mind-bending, throwing cars, a superhero in a bald kid's body
    • Past all of that, there is an extreme emphasis on the 80s.
    • It makes many people nostalgic for a time they weren’t alive for, connecting generations and getting to see how their parents and grandparents lived. The Duffy brothers went to extreme lengths to maintain historical accuracy, from hair to the fast food and candy they ate.

Segment 2: Louisa Dissing on Gabbi

Okay, well, for one, I didn’t know that Stranger Things was based on DND, but that makes it a bit odd, haha. On another note, though, I think that the nostalgia of the 80s is something that only people living in the 80s should resonate with, not people born in the 2000s.

Gabbi: But the 80s were iconic, so who wouldn't want to experience them through a TV show?

Louisa: I mean, maybe the outfits are cool, but the hair and everything are a bit over the top.

Louisa: Whatever. From what I see on social media, even die-hard fans are sick of the same plot over and over. Can you explain the plot very simply, please

Gabbi: Suree, basically, another monster attacks Hawkins every season

    • Louisa: Talk about how boring that is

    Gabbi: yeah yeah whatever

Louisa: So basically every season it's like yay! The threat is gone, and then BOO, M next summer, there's a new monster that's like hey! Did you miss me?

    Gabbi: Well…

Louisa: Uh-huh, like are any of the kids' parents in the picture, because if there was some crazy monster in my town every year, my mom would be likeWee need to get the heck out of here. Is it called Stranger Things because things get stranger, and parents don’t even notice?

Gabbi: answers question well, given you literally know nothing, even though I’ve tried to explain it to you. How bout I give you a few trivia questions to show our listeners you’re not a credible source!

    Louisa: Fine- let's do it!

Q1: One of the show's most beloved characters was meant to be killed at the end of season 1. Who was it?

A1: Steve Harrington or Joe Kerry, but because of the outcry from the fans, they didn’t

Q2: Who said the lineChrissysy wake up” that was then memed and turned into a viral internet...

  • Episode 1: Harry Potter's Magical Fandom
    Oct 17 2025
Hopewell Valley Student Podcasting Network Episode Title: Harry Potter's Magical Fandom

Gabbi: Welcome to The fan and the foe with your host(s) Gabbi and Louisa. Your go-to fandom podcast. In this episode of the fan and the foe, we are discussing the magical world of Harry Potter…

    Louisa: and its unusual fans

Segment 1: What house are you quiz and basic rundown

Gabbi: Harry Potter is a magical world which I myself have been an avid fan of for years. There are 7 original books and 8 movies which follow the trials and tribulations of Harry Potter and his friends' years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Louisa: See, even off the bat, with a name like that, you know the fans are going to bea bit insane.

    • Go into some fandom lore, basic knowledge of the characters, plot, and biggest challenges they face– Voldemort, how
    • Harry Potter's parents died
    • Raised by muggles
    • Hogwarts recruits him
    • Harry meets Ron and Hermione and is introduced to the world of magic
    • He finds out he's really special– conqueror of death

Louisa : Apparently, according to Gabbi, One of the most iconic parts of Harry potter is the Hogwarts houses, there are 4 of them, and fans take great pride in whatever house they are in. I personally am a Gryffindor but Louisa here does not know what house she is so we are going to take a quick buzzfeed quiz to find out, Ill take it too for fun

    Take the Quiz

    Segment 2: Argument

    And we are back!

    • talk-through quiz, and argue about different things while reviewing the houses as we get results.
    • Ask abiu questions
    • Describe houses
    • Talk about why fans seem to flock to it, it's a way to escape, reminds them of their childhood
    • Hard to let something go that has been part of your life for so long
    • Universal is understandable, the harry potter rides are the best ones
    • And the butterbeer

Louisa: Okay, I understand if people under the age of 12 enjoy Harry Potter, but those 30-year-old adults who dress up as characters for Halloween? Like, that's a little odd to me, but hey, you do you, I guess.

    Segment 3: Crazy fan mail

Gabbi: Some of the Harry Potter actors have had some CRAZY superfans but who can blame them, I would want to learn magic, too.

Louisa: Sure, but look at this story i found: Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy was interviewed by Yahoo News recounting his craziest encounter. He said “‘I’ve got some very strange letters. One man wanted to adopt me. He had changed his name legally to Lucius Malfoy and wanted me to change my name to Draco Malfoy and to legally adopt me. I declined!’” he said.

Louisa: this is why you Harry Potter fans are insane. Like, who in the right mind does that??

Gabbi: yea…this one isn’t helping my case. But this next one has to do with everyone's favorite Rupert Grint who plays Ron

    • He cant say no to fans and one time ended up going back to their apartment and getting dressed as a drag queen “full heels and a feather boa” he says

Louisa: well that wraps up todays episode. Thank you for tuning in

Gabbi+Louisa: Thank you for tuning in!
