First Responder Wellness is a residential and intensive outpatient treatment center that exclusively treats public safety professionals for alcohol, post-traumatic stress, addiction, anxiety, and depression. Since 2018, we have had more than 1,800 public safety professionals attend our long-term program. On The First Responder Wellness Podcast, we sit down with members of our clinical team, organizational leadership, subject matter experts, and alumni who have experienced the program firsthand. Each episode is designed to bring insight, hope, and practical tools to first responders and their families, while shedding light on the unique challenges and resiliency within the public safety community.

    Dr. Stephen Odom is the founder of First Responder Wellness and a nationally recognized behavioral health expert with over 30 years of experience in healthcare, psychology, and leadership. A licensed marriage and family therapist, Dr. Odom has led treatment programs across the country and advised hospitals, universities, and public safety agencies. His passion for serving first responders comes from his own family’s background in military, law enforcement, and healthcare, and he has dedicated his career to creating programs that address their unique needs.

    In this episode, Dr. Odom discusses the cultural shift he’s seeing, first responders seeking help earlier, before crisis, and why lasting change must come from the top down. From “hire to retire,” he emphasizes that leadership’s commitment to mental health is just as critical as strategy and tactics.
