    Jason and Marissa are back for Elsbeth Season 3, Episode 12 — and Jason's back from the hospital after a gallbladder removal, which he is choosing to spin as an opportunity for a new kind of podcast fundraiser. This week, Elsbeth goes deep into New York's surprisingly cutthroat wig industry, where five territorial "big wigs" rule their respective corners of the city — and one of them ends up dead. The episode opens with a stylistic twist the hosts loved, the Alec Bloom subplot gets a major jolt, and something happens in the final minutes that had Jason rewinding his TV in genuine disbelief.Case / Main Plot of the Week: Murder in the Wig WorldNew York's wig business is more organized — and more territorial — than you'd think. This week introduces five big players, each running their own corner of the market: theatre, the Orthodox community, TV and film, the drag and exotic dance scene, and the elite toupee crowd. When one of them turns up dead, the question isn't just who did it — it's who among this very specific, very dramatic group had the most to gain.The episode opens with a Goodfellas-style inner monologue that gives us unusual access to one character's mindset from the jump. Jason and Marissa loved this narrative choice and noted it's the second episode in a row to try it. The case involves a daytime talk show host, a jar of legendary sauce, a set of scissors that have absolutely no business being in someone's bag, and a guest star that Marissa was very excited about and Jason had to sheepishly admit he didn't recognize.Some things to watch for when you tune in: Smolen has a character moment that is simultaneously humbling and triumphant. Elsbeth tries on a new look. The sauce/gravy debate comes up and the hosts have opinions. And in the final minutes, something happens that may or may not indicate Elsbeth is developing a brand new ability — press play to hear Jason and Marissa try to make sense of it.What Else Is Going OnThe Alec Bloom subplot gets a significant development this episode, with a face from last season showing back up in an unexpected capacity.     We made it to Season 5, folks! Jason and Marissa are back to break down the Season 5 premiere of The Good Wife, where everything is quietly falling apart — a new law firm is taking shape in the shadows, a death row appeal is burning the clock, and Peter Florrick is being Peter Florrick again. Oh, and we say hello to New Carrey, who has apparently "been here the whole time." Sure, Jan.


    Case of the Week: Eddie Fordham's Death Row Appeal

    • Played by: Malik Yoba (Cool Runnings, New York Undercover, Alphas)
    • The situation: Eddie was convicted in 1999 for the murders of two teenage girls outside a movie theater. The key evidence? A hair test and a jailhouse snitch. The execution is imminent — and Diane and Alicia have maybe 48 hours to stop it.
    • The complication: Finding a vein has taken over two hours. An IV pops during the first execution attempt, blood goes everywhere, Diane calls it torture, and suddenly there's an Eighth Amendment case to be made.
    • The legal strategy: Rather than appeal the conviction directly, Will calls in a favor to Barry Scheck (yes, the real Barry Scheck of the Innocence Project — playing himself) to piggyback Eddie's situation onto an existing lethal injection class action suit in federal court.
    • The twist: The jailhouse snitch didn't actually witness anything. A typist who processed reports across multiple cases fed him details — including the ski mask detail — making his testimony completely fabricated. Tommy eventually recants on the stand.

    Notable guest: ASA on the opposing side is played by Molly Price, aka Detective Third Watch from Elsbeth! Always exciting to spot a crossover actor.
